What do you think about the recent appeal of the animal cruelty video bill? It was designed to prevent crush laws. Here it is

Animal rights is one topic that I've largely shut up about since the end of my neocon-culture-war-bullshit days. Unless I'm grievously misinterpreting or underthinking something, it seems that while the conduct in the videos should be illegal, the videos themselves fall under free-speech protection. That passes my Decidedly Not a Legal Scholar sniff test, at least.

I only ask because in my pol sci class I've got to do a presentation supporting the removal of this law. I personally agree with you and the SCOTUS agrees with you.

I still feel really, erm, philosophically incomplete on the issue, since animal rights really haven't been on my radar. I don't think it's as cut-and-dried as, say, first-amendment protections of hate speech--Fred Phelps and the KKK and such garbage.
