Indulge in an Asian-Western Fusion Feast & Desserts @ Good Bites (Bishan Sports Hall)

Jan 29, 2022 20:55

Hey people!

Two years ago, I visited Good Bites cafe with my blogger girls and it was such a cosy hidden gem within Bishan Sports Hall.

Since then, this halal-certified cafe has revamped their menu and revised their operating hours. They are now open from 11am to 5am daily (YES, OVERNIGHT) to serve their customers with delicious meals and hearty suppers. Talk about dedication!

I was honoured to be invited by the cafe for a media tasting to try their new menu, and they graciously allowed me to bring along three guests too. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to introduce my husband to this cafe, and have a double date with Jessie and her hubs Kelvin as well.

We had an alfresco dining experience at what I felt was the best spot in the cafe. Bless the good and cooling weather that night. The string of lights above us emitted a romantic glow while the view overlooking a vast field calmed my senses.

There were plenty of decors lining the cafe for visitors to up their Instagram game. I thought Good Bites was instagrammable when I first saw it two years ago. This time, this cafe was photo-worthy to a whole new level. Jessie and I took some photos here because we couldn't resist.

While waiting for our dinner to start, I noticed that there was signficantly more visitors than I expected and no longer the quiet cafe that I remembered it to be. Mind you, it was a Tuesday night and there were barely any vacant seats. By the time we were done with our tasting at 9pm-ish, visitors were still flocking in to have desserts. I guessed Good Bites became pretty popular over the years, attracting beyond sports hall users to visit via word of mouth recommendations.

Speaking of recommendations, let's dive into their new menu, shall we?

Good Bites serves Asian-Western fusion food and the first dish we tried was their Party Basket ($16.99). This comprised of sides such as Spicy Mid-Wings, Calamari and Sweet Potato Fries served with tartar sauce. It's pretty sinful but you can't go wrong with deep fried goodness. Thank God I had 3 other guests to share my food with so that I would not over-eat.

They had 13 pastas on their menu, but if you have to choose one, I'd recommend the Tom Yum Pasta ($11.99 for chicken; $13.99 for seafood).

This was evidently our favourite because all of us were going for second helpings and it was the first dish to be wiped out. For someone with low spice tolerance, I was surprised by how much I dig this flavourful dish. I would totally eat this again. All I need to do is to standby a tall glass of water!

Another dish that ranks high on my list of favourites is their Baked Salmon ($17.99).

I'm very particular about salmon because the texture can be really dry sometimes, but this was soft and adequately juicy. I loved pairing it with the mash potato, and dipping it into herb cream sauce. I liked the rest of the ingredients on the plate too - from the broccoli to the tasty sauteed mushrooms.

Chicken Steak-Out ($13.99) was very well-received too.

The chicken was grilled to perfection, leaving behind a tender and succulent meat underneath a crispy golden brown skin. This time, the dish came with brown sauce, which complemented the chicken wonderfully. My hubs was very impressed by Good Bites' sauces and went around trying all of them.

The least well-received dish was possibly the Cajun Lamb Rack ($21.99), largely because 3 out of 4 of us hardly eat lamb. Thus, Kelvin finished majority of it.

While the Lamb Rack was absolutely fragrant, it's the taste that I still could not appreciate after all these years. This is entirely my personal preference, and you're welcome to still order this dish if you're a fan of lamb!

For beverages, Good Bites has their usual selection of coffee, latte, mocha, tea and soda. However, what I would like to draw your attention to is their artisanal Iced Coffee.

We tried their Passionfruit Sparkling Americano ($7.99) which was extremely refreshing while the Banana Choco Frappe ($8.99) resembled a cross between a coffee and a milkshake. Iced coffee never tasted this good! It was quite fun to pour the coffee and mix the drink on your own too. You've definitely got to try!

If you have a sweet tooth, you might want to try their signature milkshakes. They're creatively concocted, look very pretty and serve as good photo-taking opportunities too. I remembered that I tried a pink strawberry milkshake topped with gem biscuits in this cafe last time.

We tried their Cookie Top Mini Milkshake ($8.99) this time. Sweetness is definitely guaranteed, so you might want to share if you're afraid of sugar rush.

For desserts, there were croffles ($7.99) and assorted cakes ($7.99).

We tried their Ondeh Ondeh Cake, Chocolate Fudge Cake and Biscoff Cheesecake. The rich and bitter Chocolate Fudge Cake was a clear winner for my husband and me. Jessie and Kelvin preferred the Biscoff Cheesecake, which was surprisingly less sweet than I thought.

The next time I visit, I'll be sure to try their croffles!
