Valentine's Day Staycation at M Social Robertson Quay

Feb 27, 2022 09:35

Hey people!

On Valentine's Day, my husband and I were on 'Health Risk Warning (HRW)', as my parents were down with COVID-19.

We actually had a staycation planned the week after, and were hoping that we would not have to forego it. Fortunately, we remained COVID-negative throughout our HRW, so we could proceed with our staycation at M Social Robertson Quay with a peace of mind.

It was indeed a blessing to be on a staycation after cancelling a series of appointments and being at home most of the time.

Although we intended to celebrate Valentine's Day at this staycation, it also felt like a celebration of the end of our HRW.

M Social is an affordable boutique hotel that is popular among staycation goers, millenials, instagrammers etc., particularly for their loft rooms. That said, my husband and I stayed in a regular Alcove Cosy Room instead.

Loft rooms are cool and they're great for photos, but I never liked to be too near the ceiling. It gives me claustrophobic vibes. The Alcove Cosy Room might be smaller than we expected, but they had immensely high ceilings (a 4m-tall pitched roof to be exact) and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.

I greatly appreciate the shower area though I wished it could be bigger. In case you're wondering whether your hotel buddy would have a full view of you showering, you could close the blinds, so no worries!

I thought I would like the LED mirror but alas, I wasn't a fan of their warm yellow lighting. The room looked dim, and it made photo-taking or applying makeup intensely difficult. I definitely prefer bright, airy spaces with white or natural lighting.

We were lucky to have an early check-in so we had more time to chill in the room. Besides, it was raining cats and dogs outside the hotel so we couldn't go anywhere too.

Good thing the rain stopped so we got to have a dip in the pool by the evening. We had to use one side of the pool because there was another couple hanging out at the other end. :)

Our staycation also comes with food adventures, so let me share with you the food places we've been to. Let's rewind to lunch before our check-in!

Lunch at Doraya @ Don Don Donki

Address: 6 Eu Tong Seng Street, #B1, Clarke Quay Central, Singapore 059817

Prior to check-in, we were at The Central, and Hubs had the craves for some good Japanese food.

We went to Don Don Donki, where Hubs couldn't stop staring (and possibly salivating) over Doraya's Salmon Bowl, so we decided to have that for lunch.

I was not feeling very hungry, so we shared the meal above. Hubs also ordered Doraya chicken and potato wedges sides so that there would be enough food for both of us.

I haven't eaten salmon in a while so I definitely enjoyed the salmon bowl. I left most of the chicken to my husband since I didn't feel like having fried chicken then. Love the lightly salted potato wedges though!

Dessert @ Tsujiri

Address: 6 Eu Tong Seng Street, #01-74, Clarke Quay Central, Singapore 059817

I wanted to save my stomach for dessert as well, because Hubs was keen on having Japanese ice cream after lunch. We shared a thirst-quenching Yuzu Citron Float from Tsujiri, which was absolutely refreshing.

I've tried matcha ice-cream from Tsujiri 6 years back when their outlet was still at 100AM, and I knew their matcha was da bomb. The blend of matcha with Yuzu this time was an interesting mix of bitter, sour and sweet tastes, and I loved it! It definitely satisfied our sweet tooth, and was perfect for the sweltering hot weather too.

Dinner @ Dabbawalla

Address: 60 Robertson Quay, #01-10/11, Singapore 238252

Our Valentine's Day dinner was at Dabbawalla, a Mumbai-inspired restaurant and bar along Robertson Quay.

We had a '1-for-1' deal at this restaurant on Entertainer SG and I was craving some Indian food (and something different from the regular egg pratas that my family likes to have) so we decided to check it out.

I loved the mix of traditional and modern elements within this restaurant, from the wall murals and decors to the hip music playing in the background. We dug in to our food while people-watching from our comfortable sofa seats. What awesome chill vibes!

Our dinner was their chef-recommended Butter Chicken Curry and Mushroom Mattar Vegetable Curry. They were so flavourful and high quality that I could not decide which one I liked better. Hubs preferred the Butter Chicken Curry, that's for sure. We also paired our food with a piece of naan and a bowl of basmati rice. Sinful but SO GOOD.

After dinner, we took a long and romantic walk along Robertson Quay, chatting about life and exploring the different eateries along the way. Robertson Quay reminds me greatly of Quayside Isle in Sentosa, without the yachts.

The bridge looked mesmerizing at night. I thought it looked beautiful in the day already, but never knew that it would look even better at night. There was a serene atmosphere, accompanied with a cooling breeze after the rain. At that moment, I felt lucky to be strolling around in such a gorgeous place with my other half.

Breakfast @ Beast & Butterflies

Address: 90 Robertson Quay, Level 1, Singapore 238259

The next morning, we had a complimentary breakfast for two at M Social's restaurant, Beast & Butterflies.

Our food choices were kept simple - we could choose a Western big breakfast, a local Nasi Lemak breakfast or a healthier-choice cereal with museli and toasts. We decided to order ALL so that we could try a bit of everything.

The big breakfast definitely met my high standards while the Nasi Lemak was so-so for me. We were intrigued with the healthier-choice breakfast because it was our first time trying museli. The pastry, fruit and orange juice were on the house as well.

I know this looked like a mega food overload, and I assure you that we don't normally eat like this. The food above was our breakfast and lunch combined, and we eventually didn't eat again until dinner time that day.

This marks the end of our staycation adventure at M Social. I'm not sure if this will also mark the last staycation experience we will have for the year since we will likely be busy with housing matters in a few months' time. If there's a new one, you'll definitely read about it here. :)
