Christmas & Year-End Staycation at Capri by Fraser Hotel Residences (Changi)

Jan 13, 2022 17:13

Hey people!

Happy 2022! This blog entry is a month late, but better late than never, right?

To celebrate Christmas and mark the end of 2021, I went for a staycation with Hubs at Capri by Fraser Hotel Residences (Changi). It was a highly anticipated mini holiday because I had just finished running a 9-day leadership milestone programme then, and I needed that break from work.

This staycation also marked the 6th staycation I had in the year. Whoa! I know it's a bit much, but this is what happens when we are not travelling + still living with parents/in-laws after getting married. Staycations became my form of holiday in the new normal.

During 11.11, we chanced upon an awesome deal at Capri by Fraser Hotel Residences (Changi) on Klook. This hotel has always been on our 'to-go' list but the price hasn't been ideal for us.

Thus, when we saw a deal going for $158/night, inclusive of breakfast for two the next morning, we jumped on the opportunity. Hubs and I usually go on staycations during weekends, but since we were both on vacation leave in December, we decided to check in on a weekday instead!

Capri by Fraser Hotel Residences (Changi) is located near Expo MRT Station and right beside Changi City Point. It was very convenient, and gave us a reason to explore Changi City Point while we made our way to and fro the MRT Station. The hotel also came with a lovely pool, which we had a good view of from our room.

Based on our Klook voucher, our check-in time was actually at 4.00pm but THANK GOODNESS I misread and turned up 2 hours earlier, thinking that we had to check-in by 2.00pm. It just so happened that our room was ready by then, so we were granted early check-in. WHEEHEE!

I LOVE Capri's extremely spacious room, and the orange-white colour concept that gave the room a vibrant ambience. The couch was my favourite, and a good lounge spot for drinking tea and shooting advertorials.

We had a king-size bed and a large window that overlooked a swimming pool. Dang, I even loved the natural light that streamed through the windows and made the room looked bright and airy.

Capri reminded me of a fully-furnished business hotel, where you could stay, work and play in. For starters, the hotel room had a dedicated work area (where we dumped our barangs on - opps!) and a comfy Herman Miller chair.

It also came well-equipped with a kitchenette which contains an induction stove, microwave, filtered water taps, fridge and dining ware that matched the colour scheme of the hotel. This kitchenette would be so useful if we were staying there during Phase 2 Heightened Alert, the period of time when we had to do a takeaway for all our meals.

The bathroom was luxuriously huge! I have never liked bathtubs, so yay to rain showers!

The mirror was gigantic, and there was also a wardrobe within the bathroom where our towels and bathrobes were kept. In fact, I spotted an iron and an ironing board in the wardrobe too.

Our bathroom amenities were from Malin + Goetz.

I have never heard of this brand before, but after using their peppermint shampoo, cilantro conditioner and rum body wash, I was darn impressed! They smelled so amazing that I actually wanted to shower more just to experience them again.

It was kinda cute that they had a vanity section with a designated space for their hair-dryer too. I sat there most of the time to blow-dry my hair or do my skincare routine.

Cycling along Changi Business Park

One thing I really appreciated about the hotel was their complimentary bike loan service. You could loan a bike from them for 4 hours between 7am to 7pm as long as they are available on the rack.

We booked the bike service immediately after checking in so that we could go on a spontaneous cycling adventure. I had the smallest bike from the rack, while Hubs was loaned a bike that was too high for him. Instead of venturing far away, we decided to cycle nearby in case it became too uncomfortable for him.

The great thing about cycling around Changi Business Park on a weekday was that there was barely anyone around, so we felt like we owned the roads.

After cycling along pathways, we eventually found ourselves in Changi Business Park & Garden, which had a nice scenic route around a pond. I was enthralled by the garden since it was my first time there and I didn't know this beautiful place existed. It felt really good to sightsee while cycling simply because we have not cycled for a long time.

Dinner at Tonito @ Jewel Changi Airport

When it was nearing dinner time, we headed to Jewel Changi Airport to dine at Tonito, a Latin American Kitchen. We had a couple of '1-for-1' dining deals at Jewel, thanks to Entertainer SG, so we did not have to rack our brains much to decide what to eat.

We were choosing between Perch or Tonito, and we eventually went for the latter because Perch was way too crowded (the staff were getting flustered with the number of customers.). Tonito was rather bustling too, but at least the staff were less overwhelmed.

We tried their Beef Quesadilla and Lentil Stew with Garlic Rice. The Quesadilla was flavourful but a little oily, so I was glad they weren't very big pieces. I would have been so gelat by then.

The Lentil Stew was surprisingly delicious and tasted fabulous with the fragrant Garlic Rice. It made me love stews even more!

Exploring Canopy Park @ Jewel Changi Airport

Hubs had $10 left for his Singapore Rediscover Vouchers and suggested that he used them all on our tickets to Canopy Park.

Thus, we made the impromptu decision to go for a post-dinner walk around Canopy Park.

Although I have been to Canopy Park in the day before, I didn't know that it would look so magical at night, with all the Christmas decors and festive lighting. It felt romantic to be exploring the park with Hubs too.

Loving the Christmas vibes in Canopy Park! I took so many photos - poor Hubs always ended up becoming my photographer when he brings me to instagrammable places.

Anderson's Ice Cream @ Jewel Changi Airport

After our walk, Hubs was craving Anderson's Ice Cream. Since we had an Entertainer SG deal as well, we decided that there's no better time than now to satisfy our sweet tooth.

Here's our addictive Rum & Raisin and Belgian Chocolate, both of which were rich flavours that complemented each other greatly. This yummilicious dessert truly ended our night on a sweet note!

Morning Swim @ Capri by Fraser

The next morning, we went for an 8am swim at the pool. As the pool has a limited capacity of 6 pax per time slot, we had to book our swimming slots early. We were also given a 1-hour duration to use the pool.

When we attempted to book our slots after checking in, the only available timeslot was at night, but it was not favourable for us since we had plans to visit Jewel. Thus, we decided to go for a morning swim the next day instead. Instead of swimming laps and being all #profitness, we spent most of the time lounging at the jacuzzi beds because it was damn shiok to enjoy a water massage. LOL!

Breakfast @ Caprilicious

Our voucher deal came with breakfast for two at Caprilicious so we went for brunch after our swimming session. Buffets were still not permitted, so we had to order from an ala carte menu.

I was a tad disappointed because I was expecting a really sumptuous intercontinental breakfast, but I guessed my expectations were set too high. The Western breakfast I ordered turned out to be very ordinary, although YX really liked his Indian breakfast of prata, curry and samosa. We also shared a bowl of macaroni, our childhood comfort food, which I ended up preferring more than my Western breakfast.

Nonetheless, it was filling indeed. I ended up not having lunch at all because my breakfast kept me full till dinner time. :D

Overall, I still enjoyed my staycation experience tremendously. I loved that it was an interesting mix of fun activities, good food and ample rest time.

This year, I have a possibly final staycation coming up in February to celebrate the month of love, before I dive into the busyness of home renovations thereafter. Looking forward to my mini holiday as well as collecting my house keys!
