My entry for monthlydiaryday.

Jul 12, 2016 23:39

I woke up relatively late, when my kind husband brought me coffee before he left for work. He retires at the end of the month, so I shall cherish this while it lasts.

The rest is under the cut. )

I'm not defending our process for selecting a president, OMG not at all, but the fact that you can end up with this woman just because no one else wanted the job?

Seems less than ideal. As does she.

2016 is turning out more interesting than I'd like.

I imagine a very similar process would happen for the Speaker of the House in the US? It's because we vote technically for our MPs and they select their leader in Parliament. It's not that nobody else wanted the job - two were eliminated in the first round and two others recognised that they did not have the support needed to win. A bit like primaries, in a way.

May is very much less than ideal, though she's arguably the least worst of the options made available. And in the turmoil we're in at the moment we just have to settle for that - though her chances of carrying on till 2020 are limited, I'd say.

The quilt looks great. I love the colours. That must have been so much work!

Thanks. I enjoy hand sewing, so the piecing took a couple of months while watching TV or relaxing. The actual quilting I did by machine, and took a few weeks.

The baby will probably throw up on it. It's how they express artistic judgement after all. ;-)

The quilt is beautiful, as is little R.

Thank you. She is wonderful, though she's giving her parents a hard time right now - life's too interesting to waste it sleeping, even when she's tired and grumpy!

Glad you got the phone issue settled; LOL that your husband is enjoying transferring the information.

Ugh! It sucks that workshop was cancelled.

The quilt looks excellent - especially for your first!

R is cute as ever! Like her choice for an earring in that last pic. A bit clunky, but kind of goes with her outfit. :)

*hugs* Sorry you're still having trouble dealing with Brexit. So much turmoil in the world - it really sucks!

Thanks. Brexit is just horrible. It's not a simple matter of "We lost, accept it", it's the destruction of so much I value about my country. I still find it hard to believe it.

R is just wonderful, though. :-D

I've never done quilting although I do like the idea of trying it one day. Well done - it looks really good.

Baby pictures are lovely - she's really growing up isn't she!

I haven't read any of Benedict Jacka's books, so thanks for that idea. ETA: Hmmm - quite expensive at £5.99 each on Kindle... I might leave it until they are cheaper. Also BJ is a wee young child (but quite good looking...).

I've not seen The Living and the Dead - worth a watch do you think? I think it's still on iPlayer.

Jacka is quite fun. I'm surprised they are still charging full price for the earlier books - they may well be on offer at some point. One series I quite enjoyed is Jon Rosenberg's, about a major mage based in Stratford-on-Avon. Paul Cornell is also good - London-based magic/police. Also quite expensive currently, though I know I got the first one much cheaper.

R is an absolute joy, though she's making life hard for her parents currently. She doesn't want to sleep, but she cries if she doesn't have company/entertainment. I'm being very careful to avoid giving unsolicited advice. ;-)
