Il mondo è molto piccolo

As I said before, I go to Italian classes. Last week I was chatting to my partner about the ease or otherwise of working out vocabulary and grammar and the help I felt I had from my other Romance languages and the language history I learned along with the Anglo-Saxon from university days. Sue, for such is her name, commented on the Anglo-Saxon and ( Read more... )

Not so much small as microscopic! Nice to meet someone to share those days wilth, and maybe get a different perspective. I found out later that my MIL had been a Hild/bede part time external Bede student not long before I was there, and had the same personal tutor that I had, Ted Prince, another close personal friend of Beowulf! ;)

Yes - we swapped tales about tutors and lecturers - the lovely Anthea Morrison, who read her lectures, almost all lifted directly from Northrop Frye, in beautiful enunciation and invariably stressing entirely the wrong syllable. It was mesmeric but almost impossible to follow/stay awake through. Dr M was a delightful person, but her lectures were real endurance trials!

gauroth, on LJ, was there at the same time as me too.

Happy Birthday!

It certainly is a small world sometimes. I'm pretty sure I was at uni with Dermot O'Leary, but I have no memory of him at all.

Thank you!

There are odd coincidences. A good friend works for Traidcraft, almost since it started, and now has a colleague I taught for A Level English.

Thank you! I suppose I collect castles like you collect churches really!

We watched the Alan Bennett stuff. Brilliant as ever.
