Can Sam's powers be used for good? Why are the angels (and Dean) convinced they must be evil?
I am seeing alot of posts about how if Sam is using his power for good - then how can they be evil.
The power in and of itself is not good or evil. The point is that it corrupts.
Sam - at any given time - can use his power for good or evil. But the temptation to use the power will eventually overwhelm him. For example, Sam correctly states he is using the power for good - to kill demons. But can he do the same thing to people? Can he force them to his will? I think yes because Andy could.
And it's not the only power.
And yes, I know that Sam wouldn't ever want to use his power for evil.
But that's where the analogy to Jack comes in.
Jack was good. He was successfully and on his own fighting off the temptation to eat people. But in the end it didn't matter because Travis was an asshole and Jack was forced to act.
And Sam is actively hunting. So the chances of him running into something that will force his hand? At this point, we're probably not talking "if" so much as "when".
Some asshole - demon, monster, hunter, or average Joe - will eventually do something to make Sam act out of rage/revenge.
And as soon as the line is crossed, there's no going back.
At least, not in this universe. (I'm basing that on the Star Wars analogies they keep hitting us with. Sam = Anakin)
That it's not Sam's fault is what makes it "tragic" not "untrue".
And that's where I think people are getting caught. That it is somehow Sam's fault. It's not. The angels are not saying that it is. They are saying that the YED had a plan and this is part of it. So Sam just needs to stop. I don't think either the Angels or God think Sam is evil. If they did, they would have brought Sam to Dean.... not the other way around.
I also think the angels are on Sam's side. (I'd *love* it to be revealed that Dean was saved as an answer to Sam's prayer - but I don't think it ever occured to Sam to pray.) Like I said, if they weren't, they would have taken direct action. I think they honestly don't know what will happen with Sam. Angels tend to take their direction from God without question. If God doesn't directly address Sam, they won't either.
So I'm betting that's where Dean comes in. Angels are sent to earth to STOP LILITH and encounter Sam - a mortal with a soul and free will. I think they got stumped and brought Dean back because they don't know what else to do.
