This was a conversation I had in email with a friend and the comments made me glowy and so I wanted to remember them, but needed the context for them to make sense.

Ouch.

Not the last one, but several before that, so that line resonates hard, as does "an inability to believe myself deserving of positive unconditional regard" -- and that line hits so hard that I can't even talk about it coherently right now...

You are not alone. And I'm not going to say, "don't give up hope," because I'm not you, not where you are, but I sortakindamaybe want to suggest that you leave a tiny space for possibilities in the future.

It is not that I am without hope, or even unhappy with the reality of my life, but I do understand what you are saying. I'm not convinced that everyone on the planet is meant to travel through life two by two, and I am happy for others that it works that way. I do not have the expectation of it for myself and am content with it. And really, I have been wrong before, so there is always room for improvement. *grin*

This is so beautifully true and expertly written! I, like you have been in singledom for awhile. Yeah, I definitely feel lonely sometimes, but on the other hand it is a LOT of work to be with someone for a lifetime. I decided that I'm going to be good to myself and love myself-and if someone wants to hop on the train, they will have a great ride 'cuz it's been pretty fun. :) Much love!!
