Predictions

Yesterday, erastes and I were talking, and, since the release date was all over LJ, we started making incredibly obvious predictions about what will happen in Book 7. These are mine:

Predictions, with a dose of snark )

All of the Horcruxes will be hidden in England, despite the fact that hiding one in Antarctica would have been a really really good idea.

Indeed. There will be at least one hidden in Hogwarts - because it's so sensible to hide uber important things, like a chunk of one's SOUL, in the enemy stronghold. And what the hell is wrong with Voldy that he's more interested in conquering a school than he is in conquering the Ministry outright? If he'd headed for the Minister's office instead of towards that stupid prophecy, he'd have some actual power by now.

Voldemort - Master of Terrible Planning, Bad Strategy, and Long Winded Speeches Before Duelling Teenagers.

Voldemort will wear the locket around his neck (or as a headband) because there could not possibly be any sort of dissention in the ranks (evidently, the Cruciatus feels good to these psychos), and nobody is sneaky enough to wait for the bastard to go to sleep and then nick the locket (maybe because Bella is taking care of Tommy's...personal...needs?).

That's BRILLIANT, and a very good point. And it brings to mind another plothole. Given that Peter canonically knows about Potions and hates and fears Voldemort...why hasn't he just slipped Voldie some Draught of the Living Death? Wouldn't kill the bastard, but he'd be in a coma for the rest of eternity. Or until someone cut his head off.

Snape could do it too--he mentioned the Draught in the first book!

So we have two men who loathe Voldemort and who canonically possess the knowledge and skill to turn Lord Voldemort into Coma Guy...

...and they don't do it. They don't even TRY.

Yeah, that's logical. Not.

Would Voldy drink or eat anything he hadn't prepared himself? He's gotta be a paranoid old bugger. Does he even need to eat and drink anymore? He's fairly non human at the time of his rebirth. Does Snape actually make potions for him, or is that fanon? I think it's fanon. Maybe. If not, could Tommy boy smell the Draught?

Or are Pettigrew and Snape just wimps? Pettigrew fears Voldy, tis true, but I dunno if he's bold enough to attempt a takeover. Or if he holds enough hatred for Voldy in his heart. He was pretty pleased with the silver hand thing. Snape would, if he was really working for Dumbles and could be sure he'd not be caught. Maybe. I dunno. The good guys don't really plan any better than the bad guys do.

Now that's not fair, what about....well, I guess Harry & Co. do have a tendency to go running off into danger without a plan or asking for adult assistance.

But the adults....well, I suppose Dumbles really should have said, "Voldemort needs something in the Department of Mysteries, and only you can get it for him. So don't be fooled into going there, OK?" But what about...hmmm?

Well, they did a good job of escorting Harry from the Dursleys to Grimmauld Place once. Right? Does that count?

Unfortunately, I think you are exactly right. Sad, isn't it?

Yes. It's horribly, horribly sad.

What's even sadder is that she'll make a mint selling this thing.

After hbpspork, I really can't consider the writing style to cover the flaws--especially since the flaws kept jumping off the pages and all but hitting me over the head.

I hope I'm wrong about Ron, Luna and Neville, too. But I don't think I am.

One has to lose there faith in Dark Lords who do not scheme well. (and manipulative allegedly good wizards who don't do much good either). Where are the intelligent ambitious successful evil/good/anyone?

In Ravenclaw, one of The Houses Not Appearing in This Story.

Also, possibly, in Hufflepuff. You can't tell me that just, fair, patient, hard-working and, above all, loyal witches and wizards wouldn't make marvelous minions. You'd think that a Dark Lord would want that sort around him, rather than all those cunning and ambitious Slytherins.
