They keep such tight lips this year, that attending Cons seems rather pointless.

If the last JM interview is anything to go by, esp second part, publicity this year will be non existant. I've never yet read such uninformative Merlin related piece of writing.

As if the A/M slash is the only one that crosses the line. Slash is about crossing lines -.-
Anyway if they pry on reading them they are just as bad as us: means they like it XD

So few conventions this year :(
Makes me sad.

well i think fans sending them those things is crossing the line ,which unfortunately we have fans who send then like explicit fanarts and so forth.but if they go looking in the fandom then thats their chioce, and they should not complain.

About the first topic, I will say that I hope they read A/G fics too. I know a large number of fans ship the A/M bromance but there are a huge number of people that write awesome A/G fics too. Though that being said if people involved in the show are offended by the slashy fics it could mean a number of things, maybe they don't see their character or that person shipped with another guy (but they not against gay people) or they may find the content offensive.

I think, to be fair, it was made clear that no one was offended by slash fics or same sex shipping, more fics that involved their characters (or even themselves?) showing violent rape/abuse kinks. Which I'd imagine aren't confined to gay slash, though I wouldn't know...:-p Has Eoin been directly quoted anywhere saying he finds gay slash offensive per se?

I have no idea if he has said that. And I now understand what may have been said. My point was that some people, such as myself, don't ship slash and see male/male relationships differently. Which could be the same with the actors. They may not find it offensive, but don't ship it that way

Sorry Ella, I wasn't asking that question directly to you, but in general since I genuinely didn't know the answer. I admit Id be surprised if Eoin had reacted like that though.

I think yes certainly some people don't like slash, some don't much like/approve of romantic m/m relationships, and of course the actors *could* be among them, but I was just pointing out that there's no evidence that they are. And, in fact, some that they're cool with it, I think? I think too that theres a huge gap between 'shipping' slash and being offended by it. Some people/actors/producers may simply not mind it. Or see its value in building a cult net fandom. Or even in some cases (like Benedict Cumberbatch) be flattered by having their character included in it. :)

There are thousands of Arthur/Merlin (mostly slash) fan ficitions there. Of course, some of them are bad written. But a lot more are good ones. And some are even GREAT. Why they only pick out the bad fictions to read, I am wondering? They don't realize some of Merlin episodes are horrible too? But we still watch the show because overall the series are still acceptable and some of the episodes are really good. See, it is irony. I would suggest that if they do want to read fan fictions, better pick out the goods ones to read.

I have to say I'm always bemused when people (involved with making the show or not) complain that certain kinds of creative reaction to Merlin (or anything else) are 'over the line ( ... )
