AoixUruha Die was surprised to find Ruki waiting for him at the train station as his business trip ended and he went back to the city by train. They hadn’t seen one another for sometime already.
“Ruki-kun!” the red hair man hurried toward the shorter one. “I didn’t know I’ll see you here!”
“Reita mentioned that you’ll come back today.” Ruki smiled to him but the smile looked a bit tensed. “and it wasn’t hard to check when the train would come.”
This explanation sounded logical enough, everyone could check the time schedule of Train Company easily enough, still Die chuckled and said to Ruki playfully. “You know…when I saw you standing on the platform, I almost thought it was your psychic power letting you know I’d be here at this time.”
“Don’t tease me again with it, Die kun.” Ruki shook his head quickly and shrugged. Ruki being ‘psychic’ was one of Die old jokes, the red hair one insisted that since he observed that Ruki was so sensitive to different matters and sometime he seemed to be able to know or sense things even before they happened actually, then the blonde must be a psychic.
Ruki will never told his friend that he was right in some way about him being psychic, well, at least he had been a psychic once. His senses had been even more sensitive than Die would never guess before he sealed this special gift, and the short blonde considered it a blessing that he could no longer sense or see the presence of ghost clearly and being bothered by it anymore. even after Kaoru sealed his ‘third sight’ years ago, still some of his sensitivity remained and allowed him to sense things a little more than a normal person could now and then.
Then he was drawn back to reality by Die’s cheerful voice.
“Oh well, I’m tired already! Mind if we go somewhere to have a cup of tea and talk?”
Still wasn’t quite sure why Ruki had came, Die decided it’d be the best if they went somewhere else to talk. Even the shorter blonde did smile and acted normal but Die had been hanging out with him long enough to tell something was bothering him.
“Err…sure, Die! Let me help you with your luggages!”
even before Die could stop him, Ruki gripped one of Die’s luggages and hurried toward the exit of the station, the taller man could only smiled a little and followed.

Eventually they ended up in some restaurant nearby, Die had ordered some noodle to eat because he didn’t eat anything on train and claimed the lunch boxes they had offered there were terrible. Ruki on the other hand, ordered a cup of coffee and sipped a mouthful now and then; watching Die went through his noodle in record speed. A few conversations had been exchanged between them but none of them touched upon the one thing that Ruki concerned the most.
When Die was finished, he studied Ruki’s expression for a while before spoke up again.
“Do you have anything to ask me, Ruki kun?”
the shorter man nodded quietly, his lips moving but no sound coming out.
Die swore he could almost tell what was in his friend’s mind so he decided to help Ruki out. “Is it about Reita? You want to hear about him?”
The other man looked up to him with widened eyes, obviously caught off guard, but slowly he nodded and said. “I’ve been worrying about him, Die kun.” The short blonde confessed. ”Did you notice anything when he was spending time with you, Die kun?”
For an instant Die wasn’t sure how to answer, so he started uncertainly. “Well…he is fine enough as far as I could see.”
But Ruki noticed the uneasiness on Die’s expression and he pressed. “but…was there something…strange happened?”
Die gripped a class of water nearby and drank from it before he answered. “I don’t know how to start, Ruki. But I’ll tell you what I had seen when I visited Reita’s relatives…”
“Thank you for that, Die kun.” Ruki looked into Die’s eyes and waited for him to continue.
Die took a deep breath. “I saw Reita and his relatives twice during my trip, one was to join them for lunch, nothing unusual happened this time, then two days later I joined them again to go to the ceremony of Obon Festival, it was when things got odd…”
Ruki unconsciously leaned himself forward and listened carefully as Die carried on.
“We went to the site after dinner and watched people dancing around the bonfire, then Reita’s aunt urged the two of us to join the dance and we did. But when I left the crowd and went back, Reita was nowhere to be seen…” the red head paused before continued. “So we moved to the entrance to wait for him to show up, it took a good while until his aunt saw him appearing at eh other end of the street instead of from inside the square like we expected him to…and stranger still, he had someone else with him.”
“Who was with him?” Ruki couldn’t help asking.
“now, that was the strange part! He brought a youth who has light color hair with him, it was someone I’d never seen before. However, Reita’s uncle and aunt seemed to recognize that boy right away and they called him ‘Uruha’--”
The remaining sentence died in Die’s throat as he saw the shift of expression on Ruki’s face, blood literally drained away from the shorter one’s face and shock written clearly on his face, letting Die know that the name ‘Uruha’ wasn’t unfamiliar with Ruki.
“Are you…Are you sure about it?” Ruki forced himself to speak. “Die…are you sure that you’d heard everything right…”
“Why, of course! You think I’d fake such thing to you?”
Ruki shook his head. “Gomen…”
“but…” Die noticed how pale Ruki looked now, and it made him worry. ”Are you alright, Ruki? Should I continue…?”
“…Yes…” Ruki swallowed hard as he tried to get a hold of his emotion. “Do continue.”
“Okay.” Die spoke again. “then the next thing I knew Reita’s uncle and aunt was throwing themselves to the boy that called ‘Uruha’, and Reita’s aunt was crying, from what I heard they all think that the boy was the couple’s son and the boy seemed to be ‘away’ for a while. But the boy himself seemed to be at loss or something, he didn’t speak at all.”
It had been a great shock for Ruki to hear Uruha reappeared again in that manner, but what Die was describing to him was even more strange and shocking. And there was something in Die’s story that he could make no sense of. “Wait, why you kept calling Uruha ‘a boy’? …why?”
“Why not?” Die was a bit confused by the question. “that ‘Uruha’ looked no more than 18 years old to me.”
Ruki was speechless, his hands reached up to cover his mouth in disbelief. It was making little sense. Uruha appeared in front of his parents and Reita again after vanishing out of sight for seven long years…and his appearance remained young and unchanged…?
“…Then…what happened?” after a long moment of silence, Ruki spoke again.
“Then Reita’s uncle and aunt took the boy away, Reita went with them. before they left I tried to ask Reita what was that all about, but he seemed to be confused too. He even promised to give me some explanation but he never did till the day I left. And I never see that boy again.”
Die’s story seemed to come to an end and Ruki didn’t say anything else for a long period of time before the red head spoke again.
“Furthermore…Reita was supposed to return the same day as I did, you know that?”
Ruki slowly shook his head.
“But when I called him again a few days after that Obon night, he told me he changed his mind and he’d stay a while longer instead of leaving…from his tone I got an impression that something was wrong but he never told me what was bothering him.”
Ruki’s hands balled into fists on his laps, it was worse than he expected; they had lost Uruha to the underworld years ago and no good could come if the light hair one really did find a way to return. He need to do something before it was too late or he would regret it.
