Parrots are rather wonderful. They live long, they mate for life, and they are very intelligent and playful. That is, if you train them correctly. I enjoy doves, but they are clearly not as popular as the more flashy birds.

...Feathers die. It's normal. Usually a bird'll take care of it's own, pull out the dead ones. Is it sick or something?

I believe it may be stress and some lack of care. Pulling out the dead ones seems to be a good idea.
