[The feed fumbles on, and a voice can be heard, as if it's some distance from the mic:]
Thank the Maker that's over, I couldn't stand watching one more of Fluffum's stupid dreams---
[And then louder:]
---It's on, isn't it.
Bugger.
WELL THEN. Hello residents of the Thor, this is your captain speaking, we have achieved normality and anything you are unable to deal with is now your own problem, etcetera.
As we've stumbled across a derelict sister-ship of our fleet, we won't be continuing on to a planet until we can figure out exactly why it's derelict. Anyone who's interested in assisting us with this is welcome to sign up in the usual way when the Lightning Post prints missions for the month.
Until then, carry on!
[And the feed ends]
OOC INFO:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say about the S.S. Sigrun:
One of the flagships of the Intergalactic Refugee Retrieval Fleet, the S.S. Sigrun hails from the same fleet as the S.S. Thor. Fitted with state-of-the-art trans-dimensional propulsion anti-matter engines, it was considered the true Star of Space. That is...until it fell off the radar several years ago. No explanations have been offered in regards to its disappearance, and even less has been offered as explanation for its sudden reappearance! The ship appears to be derelict, stripped bare of any life that once inhabited the massive vessel's walls, and it floats aimlessly throughout the cosmos.
However, despite the apparent lack of life, strange heat signatures have been picked up throughout the entire ship. Whether this is the ship's failsafe systems perpetually attempting to restore power and life support, or something else entirely is unknown. What is known is this: The entire crew, as well as the thousands of refugees that the ship once carried, are gone. The only traces of life remaining appear to be the strange sounds, the scratches and stains adorning the walls, and the fact that a beacon appears to be transmitting from the bridge. The S.S. Thor, a member of the Sigrun's fleet, has been recently commissioned to investigate its sudden reappearance, as well as to salvage whatever technology and parts they can. And above all else, the ship's black box must be recovered. On that note, salvagers and volunteers are welcome, but make sure to dress accordingly! Gravity, power, and life support all seem to function when they choose to (read: are just as likely to cut out at the least opportune times) and while the original inhabitants are gone, some newcomers might have moved in! Especially the kind that can survive in the vacuum of space with little to no trouble and are rather annoyed by light. And intruders. Godspeed, denizens of the Thor! We look forward to hearing your report!
S.S. Sigrun notes:
Power appears to be sparse throughout the ship.
While the captains, crew, citizens, and refugees appear to be gone, the ship itself isn't necessarily uninhabited.
There are live signals coming from a beacon on the bridge. However, the only people with the codes necessary to access the bridge are missing.
There is no damage to the hull of the ship, however, there are bloodstains and other inexplicable markings all over the ship on the interior. Though the blood isn't necessarily that of a human or Vogon.
The Residential Area is the safest place on the Sigrun thanks to its backup generator. However, it is still prone to danger.
All other areas of the ship have been unlocked, though space suits and other tools might be necessary to explore. Proceed with caution.
The following images are transmitted with the notes:
Okay! So, as you may have noticed, we're doing something a little different this month! As the (eerily up-to-date) Guide entry says, the purpose of the stop and exploration of the Sigrun is to locate the station's black box. We'll be posting more detailed information about the station - including what your characters can expect to find there - tomorrow. We'll also explain how we plan to work the search for the black box, as the discovery of that bit of technology is the overarching plot for this month! And as the grumpy captain said, there will be plenty of paying missions for enterprising young refugees to take in the name of exploration, salvage, reconnaissance, and research.
So, to summarize!
× Monday, February 28th is when we'll be posting information for the duration of the month-long search.
× Missions will be posted on Tuesday, March 1st
× The monthly
Promotions and Upgrades post is up! If you'd like for your character to get a raise or a new room, please make sure to comment there!
× Lastly, don't forget to post your
February activity! You can use
these new rules if you like, or just stick with the usual.
