mystery solved

I'd had this plant for ten years, and was tired of not knowing what it was, so a month and a half ago I asked you what you thought it was. ( original postI had guessed it was false Solomon's seal, and the only person to answer suggested the same. Doing further research, I decided (with about 95% certainty) that's what it was. The only thing that ( Read more... )

Beautiful! The first year that my stargazers bloomed, I only got the one blossom. The following year they went crazy, with many blossoms on one stem.

I have a patch of lilies nearby to these. There used to be several orange and yellow ones. Rabbits got them one year, and now there's only one yellow one left. But there are a few little sprouts. It's taking a long time for them to get big enough to bloom.

While weeding a garden bed, I came across a stem exactly like that...now I know for certain what it is. Unlike most people, I've been removing lilies from my yard whenever I find them (except daylilies, which are a different family). Lilies (easter lilies, stargazer lilies, etc.) are deadly to cats - even in small doses they will ruin the liver. After a close call with an Easter lily I was given as a gift, I decided that there were plenty of beautiful plants in the world and I could get by without lilies. So, pretty as it would be when in bloom, I'll be rooting this one out.
