Wow, beautiful!

But you reminded me of my dream last night, that I had grown a gorgeous variety of irises and they were blooming... but now I remember that was just a dream :-[

But wow! Those are amazing, I hope they continue to do well for you.

Thanks! There's 7 flowers out there now and a bunch of sprouts; I'm really excited.

Those are so beautiful! And that's great that you have enough to make paella. I'd love to get some of those one of these days.

Any chance you could get some limestone gravel?
I'm told that saffron crocus likes some limestone rock in its soil.

I had not heard that.... I just figured it was the weather. I noticed they don't start to sprout until the temps get down into the 40s at night but once a really good hard frost comes along they don't put out any more flowers.

The last few years it's been hot until nearly November and then with in 2-3 weeks the temps would really drop off before many flowers had a chance to go for it.

This year it has cooled off a lot sooner (at least at night) so they started to sprout a few weeks ago and it's been chilly (high 30s) at night for the past week and so they've started flowering.

Oh wow, they look great!
Mine are only just starting to come up--I hope they have enough time to bloom, if they do at all.
