As is the answer to all things, I do believe it is time to look at porn.

What? Garden porn.

Went out after a weekend of rain last weekend and discovered that my squash plants had all done this:

BEAUTIFUL! I'm craving some fresh veggies right now.

I think there are actually a few cukes that are not vine varieties and grow like zuch, but couldn't tell you specifics.

For the existing vine cukes, just give them something to grow up... another tomato cage, a couple of crossed stakes in a teepee kind of formation, etc.

(FWIW, peas need to climb too, so give them a similar treatment or expect them to take over your railing.)

For the cucumbers, I would suggest tying the vines to that white railing I see in some of your pictures and let them grow up and over it. From other pictures I've seen of summer squash plants, I bet yours is going to get a lot bigger!

Your garden looks great!

We have a raised embankment on two sides of our backyard, and on part of it we planted squash and they are going INSANE this year - this is from a week ago and they're much bigger now:

I got my zucchini in late so not sure what it's gonna do. I already have some tomatoes, I just realized now when tying up my out of control plants. I was afraid I wouldn't get any as they don't get as much sun as I'd like, but they're doing pretty good. (It's funny, the neighbors ask how're our tomatoes doing about once a week) My squash, I think it's spaghetti as it's a volunteer, is about 6 feet long and has one tiny little baby that I've seen so far. I've harvested two kinds of string beans this year and a bunch of radishes. Next year I think I'll put the tomatoes in where the beans are though, as they get much more sun.

My squash are always super crazy like that, too. It's surprising the first time it happens!

I agree with the suggestion to train the cucumbers up if you can. It makes it a lot easier to manage the plant and then the fruit grow nice and straight!! :)
