There's a garden bed near the house, surrounded by sidewalk; the first crocus of the year always bloom there, even though it's also where all the snow from the sidewalk ends up. The big lavender-ish crocus were up and blooming there a few days ago (zone 5, southern Wisconsin). It's been warm - nearly 60 today - so there are only isolated patches

On this day last year, my garden journal said, "Hyacinths and crocuses coming up on the south side of the house. Everything else still has several inches of snow. In fact, we just got three inches yesterday, in spite of it being well above freezing for much of the day. It has been very warm for several days, so if this continues, we should see bare ground by early next week."
April 2nd said, "The usual assortment of bulb (and similar) plants are coming up. Crocuses are all over. Daffodils are a few inches high. Tulips are coming up. Hyacinths are showing buds."
I'd say I'm right in between those states, so a couple of weeks ahead of last year. Which, if I recall, was a little
