Too hot to cook?!

Aug 11, 2020 09:56

The temperatures are getting a wee bit warm this week, about 29°C today and over 30° tomorrow, which brings up the usual question: what on earth do I make for tea? I do not want to put the oven on! Having a salad twice a day is boring. I wonder if I could make something like a noodle/rice bowl, but I'm not sure what sort of sauce it would ( Read more... )

Let me laugh at these temperatures. Can I have your 29° please???

I just had Käsespätzle ... which in hindsight wasn't a good idea in this weather.

Sure, but you have to have the 92% humidity that goes with it. And the four days of thunderstorms.

Käsespätzle is probably not ideal, but sounds yummy!

I mostly eat the same as usual, which is not helpful. :-)

Does it not get very hot where you live?

Well, we're in the middle of a heatwave, but that's more or less a week per year.

We eat light dishes over here when it gets too hot to cook. Like salads, pasta, rice and stuff.

We have rice and pasta most days of the year anyway, I was trying to find something different.

Pasta salad, soup (hot or cold), rice and beans, and anything I can make in a crockpot (slow cooker)

I can imagine slow cookers are useful when it's too hot to put the oven on.

They are super helpful. If I had a toaster oven, I'd use that too.

Can we trade? It's 32°C today and it's supposed to go back up to 40°C+ this weekend. All things considered, this summer hasn't been that bad for us. It's usually 40°C+ all summer (not a fan of when it was 47°C AT ALL though). I'll trade with you but throw my humidity out the window because bleh. I hate this humidity lmao. You can never properly cool down in it!

Do what I do. Go with cold drinks and food when it's too hot! Like a nice sandwich (I'm not even big on sandwiches but like... it's cold lol. I'm here for it).

The humidity has been pretty high here. It was 92% humidity on Tuesday, 87% on Wednesday and 88% today. There's been no breeze at all, last night it was completely still. And we don't have air conditioning either so it was horrendous for sleeping.

I made tuna melt wraps last night which was a nice change. I try not to eat too much bread but sometimes you just have to eat what you can!

I hate the humidity. Oh god and it gets even worse if it rains. There's been a couple summers where we had rain in the middle of July (which lmao used to never happen here) and you needed a knife to cut through the humidity.

OMG NO AIR-CONDITIONING. In the heat and humidity. That's a nightmare.

Yep. I'm not a big bread or sandwich person but sometimes, if it's too hot to eat hot food, you go with what you can for cold food lol.

Air conditioning is not common here at all. British houses are also not made for hot weather, they're more made for cold weather instead. They're brick houses, with double glazed windows, and often lots of insulation. There's been a huge thing here for years about insulating your house well so that heat doesn't escape in the winter. So of course, in the summer, the heat just builds up because it has nowhere to go. It's horrendous.

I used to eat a LOT of bread. I'd have a sandwich for lunch, maybe a slice with my evening meal, and a slice or two of toast before bed. I reduced it so that I now only have a sandwich maybe once a week. I try to only have a slice at day at the most. It made a huge difference to my weight!
