I got my car insurance renewal quote a couple of days ago. I expected it would be much more expensive but I also have 7 years protected no claims bonus. It was much worse than I thought ( Read more... )

How on earth? I was in a proper write-off crash claim and I'm almost entirely sure the insurance is still less than your quote.

Insurance companies are crazy.

It makes no sense. Neither does the fact that nearly 30 insurance companies can't give a quote through confused.com just because of the two claims. The cheapest I can find so far is £500 with legal cover and courtesy car from LV=.

Hm I suppose they want you to phone so they can get their hooks in and beat you down with all sorts of "tempting" deals.

What the fucking fuck. That's so ridiculous. It's especially crappy that you're being penalised for the claim that wasn't your fault. That does suck huge great sweaty monkey balls and it blows goats besides. On a rainy day. *nods firmly* How do they even justify penalising you for that?

Insurance companies are evil. :( I hope you can find someone else who will give you a better quote.

I suppose it's because I used their service to sort out the claim with the other driver's insurance company. And in my case, the other driver apparently never told her insurance company because on my renewal documents, it lists the claim as not recovered.

The best quote I've found so far is £503 with LV=. Either I change over to LV= or I contact my current company and ask them if they can beat it.

I thought they were supposed to always sort things out for you and only charge you if you're at fault. Stupid insurance companies. And it's beyond ridiculous that the other driver can just not bother to tell her insurance and that makes it your responsibility. Grrrrr.

Feh, that's hardly any better at all. I'd see if the current company can beat it, and if they can't, go with LV=. Unless LV= won't do stupid stuffs like charge you for an incident that is entirely not your fault; then I'd just switch straight over. Didn't you say that a load of companies wouldn't give quotes through confused.com because of the claims though? You could call some of those and see what they have to offer.

Charge for what? The only charge other than the initial payment is your excess which is standard insurance practice and varies depending on your policy. My current excess is £0. I don't know where the other driver stands because as it was her fault, my insurance company claims the costs back from her company which they've tried to do. I presume they've contacted her about it but she's not responded. It doesn't impact on me any anyway.

My current insurance haven't charged me for any incidents. LV= would raise my insurance renewal if I were to make any claims on my insurance. That's how insurance works. My issue is with how much my premium has increased. As for contacting the other companies, that would mean phoning them all, giving them all my details, getting the quotes... it all takes time, it's monotonous and the exact thing that confused.com is supposed to cover.

Is it possible to dispute, or is this purely in the area of "they can do what they want?" Because that's completely ridiculous.

The only way to really dispute it is to find a cheaper quote and ask them to match it or better it. But generally, it's a case of 'they can charge what they like'. It's insurance, they're a law unto themselves.

Car insurance has supposedly gone up by 20% this year, although if I'd not made any claims, my renewal price wouldn't be much greater than what I paid last year.

Lancaster are good for classic cars, I used to insure my Beetle with them.
