I got my car insurance renewal quote a couple of days ago. I expected it would be much more expensive but I also have 7 years protected no claims bonus. It was much worse than I thought ( Read more... )

Is that for full comprehensive insurance? If so, could you possibly get by with lower coverage, like third party property, fire & theft? (Sorry, not sure what it's called over there)

Yes, it's for fully comprehensive. Third party, fire & theft is not a good idea on a new-ish car, it's much better for older ones that aren't worth a lot because I'd only be covered if it was stolen or set on fire. If someone ran into the back of me as happened a couple of months ago, I'd have to pay to repair the damage to my car. And that can be very expensive.

that really sucks :( I've not used confused.com, have you tried the other comparison websites at all - being charmed by meerkats and irritated by opera singers must have its uses at least once in a lifetime. We used to be insured with Tesco, they were the lowest when Forest had ridiculously high premiums for being a new driver and living in Liverpool - apparently the best place to live is Northern Ireland now, he's paying less than half what he, sorry, *I* paid for the insurance here.. Did you try the supermarkets?

I've been using confused.com for many years now so I've generally stuck with that one. I think I tried moneysupermarket.com last year and it gave me similar prices. I tend to avoid supermarket and cheapy companies like that, they give you a low premium but I believe you pay for it when you come to claim because their service is appalling. I managed to sort it today although I still paid nearly £500 with the RAC *sigh*
