As well as a huge pile of paperwork, my step-father also left a huge collection of CDs, DVDs and PC games for us to sort through. Actually, the vast majority of it is CDs, there's easily got to be around 200. Most of it is stuff that the rest of us don't like - classical, jazz and blues music, war games and crime/thriller films - so I suggested ( Read more... )

I would take them to a charity shop - that way, they can do some good and hopefully find a more appreciative audience!

Oh absolutely, I'd suggested charity shops and my mother responded with her idea about the nursing home . I just posted about my mother's idea because I thought it was amusing.

Nursing homes just need as much contributions as charity shops though, and at least the items are going straight to the place they're needed as it were.

Making someone's Christmas brighter there I should think, lots of people getting a bargain :) I can't understand the 1p sellers either tho i have occasionally got books that way.

Worth freecycling the older stuff maybe?

I hope so!

There's no Freecycle in my area. There was a huge falling out a while back and all the local groups are now Freegle. I couldn't be doing with all the drama and politics so I left. I'd rather donate them to a charity shop to be honest. There's one in the village which supports the local hospice so I'd probably take them there. I prefer to contribute to local places.

Yay, I'm so glad some of them sold so quickly! I hope the others sell ASAP. Those 1p sellers have always annoyed and confused me too. I'm really not clear on what their game is because as you said, surely they're operating at a loss. Unless they're just trying to get loads of good feedback and then increase their prices or something? I have no idea.

I agree though that the nursing home might not be the best place for those particular films. Both charity shops and Freecycle sound like good ideas to me. Maybe list them on Freecycle and if they go unclaimed, take them to a charity shop?

Another DVD has sold today so that's 5 in total so far. Maybe the 1p sellers do just want the feedback although it's a pricey way of going about it.

Like I just said to Blue, there's no Freecycle in my area any more. There was a huge falling out with the network last year and it all went to Freegle instead. I'd probably donate them to a charity shop in the village that supports the local hospice, I prefer to support local things like that.

Yay, I'm glad another sold! The charity shop sounds like a good idea though. I agree that supporting local things like that is preferable. :)

I think the 1p sellers are usually Real Businesses And Shops so they want to get rid of stuff that's basically taking up space. That's been my experience, anyway.

Possibly but surely they're not gaining anything by selling stuff so cheaply? They're going to be operating at a loss of nearly £3 per item. (Amazon take £1.71 in fees for a DVD and it costs about £1 to post them out.)
