Sold!

As well as a huge pile of paperwork, my step-father also left a huge collection of CDs, DVDs and PC games for us to sort through. Actually, the vast majority of it is CDs, there's easily got to be around 200. Most of it is stuff that the rest of us don't like - classical, jazz and blues music, war games and crime/thriller films - so I suggested that we sell it on Amazon Marketplace. Or rather I sell it on Amazon Marketplace seeing as I have a seller account there. My sister made a start on sorting it all out the other week, she organised everything and started listing all the items. I've continued with it as and when I had time. We'd done the DVDs and games first as there's less of those than the CDs! I decided to get those up on Amazon as soon as possible because it seems like the right time of year for it, what with people wanting to buy seasonal gifts.

So I spent all yesterday afternoon and evening hidden inside a small fortress of plastic cases while inputting barcode after barcode onto Amazon. Luckily most of the DVDs are in excellent condition and look pretty much pristine so I've listed them all as Like New. However, there are some annoying people who have things listed for a penny. I don't understand why they'd do that. How do they end up with any money that way? Surely once they've paid Amazon's fee and for P&P, they're working on a loss. Doesn't that mean then that they're paying to have people buy their stuff? I just... it makes no sense. But the thing is, if someone sells a used copy in Very Good condition for 1p, then I have no chance of selling anything at more than that, even if it is all shiny and Like New. I managed to list about half of the DVDs and nearly all of the games at least, and I might have to check back in a few days on the ones with numpty sellers and see if the penny dreadfuls have gone.

To my great surprise, some of the games started selling before I'd even finished listing them all! The first one sold only an hour and 15 minutes after I'd listed it! By the time I went to bed, two games and a DVD had sold. Although I thought this would be a good time of year, I didn't expect they'd start selling that fast! I was going into town this morning anyway so I got them all packaged up and took them off to the post office first thing. There was a HUGE queue there so while I waited, I checked my e-mails and found out that another DVD had sold!

I don't know what we'll do with the things that are too old or not worth putting on Amazon. My mother suggested that we took them down to the nursing home in the village. I'm not so sure that's a good idea. I mean, are films like Death Race, Revolver and The Pacifier likely to go down well with nursing home inhabitants?

oh amazon marketplace how i love you, mother, the day my life jumped the shark, apple
