Part of this totally spawned a SECOND "Defend" heroes_contest entry, btw. *Love* your adds! Will comment more later ;)

Yay! The big adds/changes were to Sylar's thought processes in the last section, to his assessment of Peter's motivations. It was an actual change in meaning, though to achieve it all I needed to change was his thought-dialogue. The actions and everything else stayed the same.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to seeing all this stuff from you someday! You keep mentioning these different things you're writing and I don't know if I should ask how they're coming along or just wait quietly. But know that I'm eager to see them, either way!

What...what's with the hellboy icon? ...not that I'm really complaining...

Awww, the poor boys. I think the reason they've always been my favorites on the show is because I felt they both deserved better than they had, and one of the reasons I ship them so hard is I feel like they're meant for each other, two sides of one coin. You know?

It's nice to see Sylar comforting Peter for a change.

For such a good guy, Peter didn't have much happiness in his life. He had like one moment with Caitlin before everything went to hell. All the rest of the time, people thought he was crazy, or he had to worry about a killer on the loose, or whether he was going to blow up the city accidentally, and then was in jail or on a mission with Adam, then he was a terrorist and disowned by his brother, power-drained by dad, beating himself up for the next couple years ... He had a miserable run there, in the show. Simone dumped him, his mentor abused him, his mother, brother and father all betrayed him. The one person he was romantic with who didn't turn against him, he accidentally stranded her in a future that doesn't exist anymore ( ... )

Oh, for sure, and I would even argue Noah's life was pretty fucked up too, although at least Claire loved him again and he got Lauren back, so I guess he's doing better.

I always come back to this scene in this one episode in early season 4 (whose name escapes me) where Hiro accidentally teleports to Peter before passing out. When he awakes in the hospital, Peter's waiting by his bedside, and Hiro says that maybe Destiny brought him to Peter to help him, and Peter's just so adamant (and unconvincing) that his life is fine and that he doesn't need fixing. Which, of course, it does need to be fixed since as someone (Noah?) pointed out, his apartment had no furniture and he was losing what few friends he had- like Hesam- because he was obsessed with saving people instead of living his own life.

ANYWAY.

Yeah, besides running into plot dead ends, they were totally just ruining those poor characters. And at least they left it with a wide open ending so we can all interpret it to our heart's desires.

I'm loving this. I was not expecting what happened to happen but if you think about it you're right in Peter handling Nathan's death like that. At least, you're more realistic.

Yay! I've got one or two more chapters left, depending on whether I take the time to follow my beta's ever-accurate advice and elaborate on some things that need elaborating on, or if I should keep with the current, somewhat abbreviated ending.

The main problem is that my muse has moved on from the story, so even though I know it would be a better story with the elaboration, my mind is shying away from doing it. :(

I understand. That's how I feel about WYLMB right now and I'm trying to force myself to do it.

Yeah, they deserve a happily ever after, don't they?

Thanks so much!

Broken up inside, all jagged shards cutting yourself over and over, wishing someone would take the knife out of your hands.

This line just made the entire chapter for me. It's just a heart breaking image and really captures how screwed up Peter is here.

Thank you. I have a lot of twisted up feelings about where Peter is in this chapter, so far as his head and heart, but I didn't know how to describe it other than to show it.
