I don't know how definitively Buffy 'chose' in Chosen. She made a certain choice in that specific time and that place, but she was also quite clear that she wasn't making long term decisions about commitment and ever afters.

Ah, let me quote my post:

"Of course, the extent and nature of Buffy's feelings for Spike are always up for discussion. However, can we please stop pulling an Eeyore and declaring that Buffy would always choose Angel over Spike when...she didn't."

I don't know what you even want me to say to that. Should we all be Tigger?

You...don't have to say anything?

Now I'm confused. The post is about one thing in particular: people saying that Buffy will always choose Angel over Spike.

I provide the lone canon example where Buffy has a choice and points out that she chooses Spike.

If you want to continue saying that she'll always choose Angel then...feel free, but it's against canon.

We really needed her to go "I choose YOU, Picachu!" to Spike. That would TOTALLY give us closure.

But if she did choose Angel? In my personal canon, it's a decision she would come to regret pretty quickly. Buffy may choose Angel, but she can never be happy with him because he doesn't know her anymore; he only knows the image of her he's held on to since she was a teenager. She's a grown woman now; a grown woman who might make the mistake of choosing Angel over Spike. But that's what it is - a mistake.

Also, it would have been HILARIOUS. ;)

I really, really want to see this in a fic, now.

There's a common resigned sentiment among Spuffy fans that Buffy, if given the choice between Angel and Spike, would end up choosing Angel.
Hmm. I'm not sure about that. Or rather, I think the sentiment is that if Joss had her choose, she'd chose Angel. Which sounds illogical (esp considering your most excellent example), but Spuffies are generally a rather defensive sort. The more we worry something might happen, the more ready we are to presume that our worst fears will come true. Partly because Buffy/Angel was always sold as a Twu Wuv Story (never mind the subversion) whereas Buffy/Spike was something much more complicated.

Personally I don't think that Buffy would ever choose Angel, no matter the huge amounts of nostalgia she might still have invested in him.

Also, I do believe that David Fury initially wanted to end AtS with Angel getting the shanshu but giving it to Spike, which would have given us a Spuffy ending. :)

That's not the sentiment I've seen, especially in my fairly recent poll about Buffy being "over" Angel.

And, again, whatever Joss chooses is what Buffy will choose, and Buffy's already chosen Spike once in canon which was dictated by Joss, so... (Figure that sentence out. I dare you!)

I think the comics were influencing your poll, I'm afraid. (I know you didn't want them mentioned, but I fear they're a rather big factor.)

Perfectly straightforward. And yes, in canon Buffy absolutely chose Spike, so people have nothing to worry about. :)

I don't doubt the comics have some influence.

However, can you trust me when I say that some of the comments I've received suggest that some of this is not based on the comics? That's what this post is addressing.
