Number of times Buffy's chosen Angel over Spike in canon: 0
Number of times Buffy's chosen Spike over Angel in canon: 1

LOL! That made me laugh out loud! Yay, score for us! XD

I am one of those resigned Spuffy fans. If asked years ago, I would have been way more positive!

*it's difficult to explain yourself, when you are supposed not to mention the thing that will not be mentioned. Seriously, not mentioning!!!*

The scientific approach! I like it. (This reminds of the old fanfic by Pattyanne, "Buffy's Decision".)

The Buffy I know and love would never choose Angel, not even if Spike were gone. She's way smarter than that.

For one, let me quote back an important and relevant part of my post:

"Of course, the extent and nature of Buffy's feelings for Spike are always up for discussion. However, can we please stop pulling an Eeyore and declaring that Buffy would always choose Angel over Spike when...she didn't."

And I know you're just positing the Bangel arguments, but I'll respond to a few anyway, because there are some holes.

Buffy chose Spike to die.

Buffy's behavior when Spike chooses to sacrifice himself suggests otherwise.

Some of them might toss Spuffy a bone and say that she chose Spike because he deserved to finish the battle having been in it

He didn't just "finish the battle". She cuddled with him. The choice isn't just Buffy fobbing the amulet over to Spike and then going upstairs to pine for Angel. She stays and snuggles and then spends what could possibly be her last night on earth with him.

You know, if I took this at face value, she must have been HORRIBLY disappointed to discover that Angel had taken a job at Evil Inc. No wonder she ended up in The Immortal's arms... *g*
