I can't believe how long I go between posts these days -- and it's even been five days since I scanned my friends' posts. I have replaced LJ with other vices activities, it seems. But I miss the days of active posting and responses and I wonder what is going on with most of you ( Read more... )

Hi Gabby! *waves*

I hear you about the iPhone apps. I uploaded Angry Birds Seasons for my daughter, but I'm the one with no self-control. I don't dare purchase any others. ;)

I think I've read all Jane Austen's novels. After Pride and Prejudice, I liked Emma the best.

Am loving Once Upon a Time. If you're looking for other fractured fairy tales to read, I have a few recs:

Gail Carson Levine's Fairest and Ella Enchanted (the book, NOT the movie) offer clever twists on some very familiar fairy tales and both are appropriate to read to Devilla.

I loved Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book. Although not technically a fairy tale, it was inspired by Kipling's The Jungle Book. It's a suspenseful read and might appeal to St Thomas.

For a Laugh-out-loud read, no one twists a fairy tale quite like Terry Pratchett. His Witches Abroad riffs on several familar stories and was hilarious.

So good to hear from you!

It's good to hear from you. I hope you enjoy Jane Austen. She's my favourite writer although Sarah's English HSC may put paid to that as she is studying "Pride and Prejudice" and helping her struggle through her essays is wearing work.

It's a constant source of amazement how everyone's children grow up, even though it is the most natural thing in the world. Just a month or so ago Moonette posted a photo of her eldest looking like the complete young lady and I could have sworn she was only eight!

Is the Admiral home with you at the moment or is he still having to be away for long stretches?

Hi Gabby! Nice to hear from you again (says another person who is hopeless about posting) and good to hear the kids are all doing well in their individual ways. They do grow up quickly don't they, though I believe that generally happens if you feed them, you know! *grin*

Ages since I read S&S, though like you I have seen all the movies and TV series of Austen's books, even the wonderful old P&P movie with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. I should get back to the books 'someday'.

Oh, those iphone apps - having heard how addictive they are, I don't DARE download any!! I only got my iphone when I retired, and handed in my work mobile phone. The iphone (previous model) came free with the phone plan, so I leapt in ...
