And where did you get the idea that the Dance in 1x12 is two days after Jack disappears in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances? I mean, maybe the dates line up, or something? I didn't pay attention, but that seems weird.
Heh. I'd like that, actually. That would make me very happy :D
I think it is. In the first TW episode they say he vanished on Jan. 21, 1941, and I could have sworn the poster for the dance says it's Jan. 19, 1941. Now I need a screencap...
Honestly, his name needs to either be Jack Harkaway, or Jack Harkness. (It is not that amazing that a man 3000 years from the future has the same name as the man whose name he took. In any event, I don't believe it's really James Harper. Just like John Smith isn't the Doctor's real name [nor is Theta Sigma, etc.])
And, wow. You might be right, and if that's true . . . then. Well, stupid? Although I believe that Jack could have wooed Algy in a day or two. I mean, he had Jack in a matter of hours. XD
James Harper just gives me hives. 'Cause, you know, Owen Harper. Ick.
Of course, I blame RTD and his playing fast and loose with dates and continuity. But hell, yeah, Jack could easily woo Algy in a couple of days. He's a bad boy :)
Date here makes Captain Jack Harkness 3rd Jan 1941. Jack fails to turn up for duty (post The Doctor Dances) on 21st Jan 1941 according to Everything Changes. So if you take the Doctor's "it started about a month ago" from the Empty Child to mean three weeks, it sorta fits -- Jack tempts them, arrives first, thinks "bugger", arranges a convenient cover, waits for them to show up, conveniently just before the bomb is scheduled to fall on the thing...
long enough ... he and Algy were an item So, like, twenty minutes, then. This is Jack! He flirts with people the instant they meet! If not before!
And I still think Jack was kidnapped by another time lord. XD
Could the unnamed enemy in Captain Jack Harkness be the Daleks? Jack says "I know those ships" in Bad Wolf but, on the other hand, they're also "the greatest threat in the universe", so it's possible he knows them without knowing them personally.
RTD's bad date sense strikes again...g_shadowslayerJanuary 3 2007, 20:26:00 UTC
*bzzzt* Sorry, please play again :)
I'm not using non-canon "canon" as proof for anything.
In the show, there is nothing to indicate the date as anything other than Jan. 20 (I thought originally it was Jan 19 but that was my headachey mis-remembering of my initial viewing). Anyway, they show the poster for the dance, and everyone's there at a dance, so we must assume that the dance they're attending is the one the poster is for. That puts the date at Jan. 20, one day before Jack vanishes. [Besides, it can't be an earlier date, because per Everything Changes, Captain Jack Harkness fails to turn up for duty. If Captain Jack Harkness was killed on Jan 4th, there would be some confusing reports or something that turned up, because why would they be expecting him to turn up anywhere after he's dead

That's the identity theft con! Like finding a dead guy in a graveyard and using them. A bit of record shuffling and WW!Jack is dead but, record-ly speaking, he's still alive, 'cause T!Jack is walking around in his boots.
The dance poster -- which when viewing I had assumed was a future dance, not the one going on, 'cause, you know, don't pay attention! -- is dated the 20th, though, so that buggers that up
