RTD's bad date sense strikes again... g_shadowslayer January 3 2007, 20:26:00 UTC
*bzzzt* Sorry, please play again :)

I'm not using non-canon "canon" as proof for anything.

In the show, there is nothing to indicate the date as anything other than Jan. 20 (I thought originally it was Jan 19 but that was my headachey mis-remembering of my initial viewing). Anyway, they show the poster for the dance, and everyone's there at a dance, so we must assume that the dance they're attending is the one the poster is for. That puts the date at Jan. 20, one day before Jack vanishes. [Besides, it can't be an earlier date, because per Everything Changes, Captain Jack Harkness fails to turn up for duty. If Captain Jack Harkness was killed on Jan 4th, there would be some confusing reports or something that turned up, because why would they be expecting him to turn up anywhere after he's dead?]

Now, on the other hand, yeah, give him ten minutes with Algy and he'd have him wrapped around his little finger, but there was the impression Algy knew him longer than a few minutes.

I could go for that, too -- it would be entertaining if perhaps he's kidnapped by the Master (or the War Chief eeee!!) claiming to be the Doctor. 'Cause after all, he thinks the Doctor is the last one. That would cause some very interesting problems... Hee!

More stuff I need to think out for future plotting... oy!

You talking about the enemy his friend was tortured to death by? Hmmn... I doubt Daleks myself, but intriguing line of thought. Hmmmn...

That's the identity theft con! Like finding a dead guy in a graveyard and using them. A bit of record shuffling and WW!Jack is dead but, record-ly speaking, he's still alive, 'cause T!Jack is walking around in his boots.

The dance poster -- which when viewing I had assumed was a future dance, not the one going on, 'cause, you know, don't pay attention! -- is dated the 20th, though, so that buggers that up.

Which makes no sense at all. WWJack dies on the 21st according to TJack. A Jack Harkness is also in the records as not showing up for duty on the same day which I assume is TJack -- was there an accompanying photo? (Note to self: acquire digital copies of episodes) -- which means the cover identity (picked because Harkness was dead) was already in use before Harkness was dead. Which is fine from a time travel point of view, but pretty stupid from a con point of view, even if Jack was hanging around non-RAF people (Algy says something about "you RAF boys" using the barrage balloons as targets, so I presume he's army). Because, surely, he's been there since he crashed hospitalship which is some time before. Which also makes no sense, 'cause, how would he know the 'Time Agents' would come out close enough to the boom for his con to work?

Maybe T!Jack is really just that good.

(*ignores the more likely "canon just doesn't make sense" explanation, whee*)

Since we're ignoring non-canon canon there's nothing that actually contradicts the Master BEING the War Chief. Of course, since you can land a TARDIS around people, no claims would have to be made, which means the Rani isn't ruled out 'cause she could just kidnap him. It'd be pretty fun for her to try it, though, and Jack would be all, "so you're a woman now -- tried your new parts out yet?" *sexx0rsmirk*

"The worst creatures imaginable"!!!

Hah! That gets even worse! We don't really get a specific date in the show, if I remember. The non-canon stuff is crazy confusing and contradicts things even worse because she's writing to him in 1943! (Part of why I refuse to trust it for things)

My new explanation is that Jack is so steeped in artron energy from all his various time jaunting that he actually bends time around him in strange, continuity breaking ways. Also, he fills the Torchwood files with misinformation for his own personal amusement. XD

*can tell the difference between reality and fiction, really*

Bwahahahahahahahahahaha Considering how Rusty is on dates and stuff, I'd almost be inclined to buy that reason! :D
