Slightly more coherent musings on Torchwood 1x12 & 1x13
Random but more coherent musings:
1. If "Jack Harkness" isn't Jack's real name, "James Harper" had better not be either. Just... ick. I'm very annoyed that they did this to him especially after making a point about it in the whole thing with John Ellis in Out of Time...
2. I'm confused by the timeline of the 1941 stuff now -- is Algy just that bad with faces, or are they playing fast and loose with the chronology? After all, he was around in London long enough as "Jack Harkness, American RAF Volunteer" that he and Algy were an item, yet he vanished MIA (i.e. disappearing with the TARDIS after Empty Child/Doctor Dances) two days [ETA: only 1 day -- my mistake] after the dance they were at in 1x12. Someone help me figure out this mess here?
3. Bilis Manger = Iblis something or other. Someone help me with the rest of the anagram. Iblis is obvious.
4. I have no doubt at all that Bilis is Iblis -- whispering his temptations to everyone. Interesting that he actually has to manufacture the temptation for Gwen. Guess she really does love Rhys, though -- that's good. Owen had two temptations -- there was Diane, and then there was the temptation to open the Rift again to fix what the twunt broke in the first place. Ianto of course had Lisa -- and I'm proud of my emo!boy that he didn't really fall for it, that he was more dragged along by the mob mentality once they got going. Tosh... did he tempt Tosh at all? I can't actually remember! (I was watching with a huge migraine -- it's not my fault!) [ETA: Oh yeah -- her mum! Duh!]
5. Ianto is not Jack's twue wuv -- Jack was perfectly willing to sacrifice himself and Tosh to keep the Rift closed (1x12), and was perfectly willing to sacrifice all of them to keep them from reopening it (1x13). They had to KILL him to keep him from stopping them. BUT, he said he would have opened the Rift for the Doctor. That is his weakness, his love for the Doctor. If Iblis had any idea who he really is, he would have known how to tempt him.
6. Still freaking cool that Jack killed the demon. So, SO cool. Heee!
7. The kiss between Jack and Jack (not using that other name, nope, sorry. Ick.) was HOT. That scene was beautiful and heartbreaking. The kiss between Jack and Ianto was very short and honestly, there might be attraction, but most of it is Ianto --> Jack, not the other way. Jack loves the Doctor. The fact that finding him is his temptation proves it. The fact that even after ALL of that, the instant he hears the TARDIS again he's gone proves it.
8. Owen had better thank his lucky stars every day and every night that Jack is so forgiving. Seriously. And he had better realize that he doesn't deserve that forgiveness.
9. I want Jack to spend a nice relaxing time, recovering from his ordeal, with Nine, not Ten. First, relaxing time + Ten just doesn't seem to happen. Second, how's he going to rest when he's ranting and slugging Ten in the jaw, huh?
10. Um... there is no Ten. (Hahahahaha I funny!)
