"I would be quite happy to delete, credit, or link the photo as the copyright holder wishes, if s/he will contact me and let me know. Thank you for bringing this to my and their attention!"
That is the extent of your obligation, both legal and social. For all you know this is a vengeful ex trying to cause problems, or just some random troll; believe it or not people get quite competitive over who has the most reblogs etc.
BTW be aware of the much larger problem - since you are posting material harvested from the net, you are in all likelihood engaging in massive copyright infringement. Be prepared when a legitimate complaint arrives.
As it would happen, the person told me his friends Bear411 handle. However, I'm not on Bear411, nor would I be again, so I'm not sure I can contact the person directly.
What bothered me most is that is was a "friend" of the guy in the photo that asked it be taken down. If he had said he was the one that took the photo it would be different. Also, even though he gave me the guys Bear411 profile name, I'm not a member of Bear411 and I can't see the guy's profile because it's been set to private. So I can't verify that it really is who he says it is in the photo.
If I'm contacted by the guy in the photo or the guy who took the photo, then of course I'll abide by their wishes. But I'm not going on the say-so of a nobody without any proof.
