“I’m off all this week.” Akihiko announced.
“Eeeehhh?” Yuya choked on his bite and coughed. “All of it? Off? You…how come?”
“”Everyone will. No idea why. The head president or whoever; some old man decided we need a break, and well, truth to be told, we do, and so…” Akihiko answered, smiling.
“Eh…You sure you didn’t get fired?”
“Yuu-kun, mou! And here I was trying to be nice…” Akihiko pouted, getting away from him as he carried the dried clothes to their drawer. “I was thinking, maybe we could do something, you know, go somewhere on the evenings? Since you’re off earlier than me anyway, we could go watch a movie, or…”
“Let’s go on a date!” Yuya suggested, finishing his dinner and taking his plate to the sink. “Whose turn is it to wash these?”
“Yours; I make the bento.” Akihiko mumbled, fighting with some of the clothes.
“What are you doing?”
“This damn thing here got caught in your sweater’s zipper!” the younger boy exclaimed, and Yuya strode close to him.
“Ah, don’t! Aki, don’t do it this way, it’s going to-“ Yuya started, but he couldn’t finish. The way Akihiko was pulling his shirt trying to get it off the zipper, suddenly a hole appeared and it got torn through.
“Aah!” he shouted, stopping immediately.
“I told you…” Yuya whispered and took the clothes from his lover’s hands, “I told you to leave house holding stuff to me. You know how clumsy you are, just…”
“Yuu-kun, I can’t leave everything to you just because I’ve got more working hours and less here...It feels really bad leaving everything to you, and it makes me feel useless at times, so…”
“It’s true that we never talked about it, but I really think we should split the chores and see what each can do, and keep it that wa-“
“No way.” Akihiko let out, putting the rest of the clothes in the drawer. “You’d take on all house holding and you’d leave only shopping and getting the bentos ready for me. Come on, Yuu-kun, what’s the use of it? We’re doing just fine without some paper deciding what each of us can and cannot do!”
“Aki…” Yuya started, but knew it was pointless. “Fine then. But don’t-“
“I won’t overdo it, just stop already!” Akihiko said, and standing up he walked back to the kitchen. “Come on, now, tell me, what do you want in tomorrow’s bento?”
“I’ll leave it to you.” Yuya replied. “I want it to be a surprise, so you can do it now, I’ll go shopping. Call me when you’re done.” He smiled, and when Akihiko nodded, he put on his shoes, blew a kiss to him as he put his jacket on and left, leaving Akihiko in the kitchen.
“I’m really curious to see what he’ll do…” he murmured as he went downstairs. Getting out in the cold, he zipped up his jacket; the air was freezing him from head to toe, but he didn’t think about it more, only headed straight for the convenience store.
That day went by very quickly, as he and Akihiko, once done with their chores sat and started drawing, partially because Yuya needed an idea for a new CM for babies’ toys. They drew until late at night, when Yuya just fell asleep on their low table over the papers, and Akihiko stood up, brought a blanket and covered his sleeping boyfriend, a happy smile plastered on his face. “Just wait until tomorrow.” He whispered and, kissing his forehead, he tiptoed to the only couch in the apartment where his own doodles and blanket were. Sitting there, he put all papers to the floor, set an alarm clock on his cell phone and covered himself with the blanket, falling asleep immediately.
When he woke up next morning, Yuya had already left for work, and cleaned up the mess they’d done with the papers. The blanket remove from their bed was back on it again, the dishes of his breakfast all washed, and there was a small note left on the table.
I get off at 4:30pm today.
Thanks for helping me last night,
I think I came up with an awesome idea!
I love you シ What’s for dinner tonight?
Akihiko smiled. Yuya sure knew how to brighten up someone’s mood. He got up and looked at the clock; it was already past midday.
“Shit…” he mumbled and, as he ran to the kitchen, his foot got tangled in the blanket and he fell face first to the floor.
“DAMMIT! What’s with my luck today, mou…” he mumbled and, rubbing his pained nose he stood up again. He walked to the bathroom’s mirror, only to realize that he’d gotten his nose to bleed. He sighed; that was indeed some luck he was having. He pulled the cotton out of the single closet and tried to stop the bleeding, holding some of it under his nose. With only one hand free, he still put his blanket away, fixed the pillows on the couch and walked up to the fridge to pull his juice carton out, then stood still.
“Something’s wrong here…” he thought and looked inside again. Spotting the unnecessary detail, he jumped back. “AH! Mou, Yuu-kun..!” he exclaimed. The bento box he’d prepared for him was forgotten by Yuya, left in the fridge just as Akihiko had put it there the previous night.
“I’ve got to take it to him…” he thought and, immediately ran to their bedroom, changed clothes and, grabbing Yuya’s bento and his coat, he ran out of the apartment, stopping only to throw a look at their mailbox. As there was nothing in it, he immediately dashed to the nearest bus stop, got in the first bus that went to the direction of Yuya’s workplace and calmed only when he was finally in it. He felt lucky the driver was going fast; it’d take him way longer to go by foot or in a taxi and it was almost time for the lunch break.
When he reached the stop he was to get off at, he made his way towards the door and was the first one to get out. He hesitated for a moment; he didn’t remember if he was to go left or right from there, but then he saw the building standing only a few meters away and started running towards it. As he was reaching it though, he saw Yuya getting out of it, running, his jacket a;; zipped up and his bag flying along behind him.
“Eh?”
“Yuu-kun?”
“Eeeeehhhh??? Aki, why? …How?…”
“Bento…” Akihiko let out, lifting the hand that was holding the box. “But why…weren’t you off at 4:30?”
“…I’m off, but…” Yuya replied, still as surprised as Akihiko. “I forgot about it…Gomen.” He said, pointing to the bento.
“Hm?”
“You came up here…Just to bring me this… Arigatou.” He blurted out, blushing.
“Nn…it’s okay.” Akihiko let out, still panting from all the running he’d been up to.
“Ah, I know!” Yuya exclaimed, startling Akihiko.
“What?”
“Let’s go on a date! Now.”
“Right now?”
“Un! Let’s go to the park, we can eat the bento you made, and then…I don’t know, go for a movie or something, as you said.”
“I don’t need something like that.” Akihiko cut him off.
“Eh?”
“If I’m with Yuu-kun, I don’t need things like movies.” He said, smiling. Yuya’s face brightened up; he caught his boyfriend’s hand and they started running, racing towards the park Yuya had suggested they should go, but while they were at it, he changed the direction and ran towards the fountain they both favored staring at when given the opportunity, stopping only when they reached it.
“??” Akihiko turned his puzzled eyes to him. “Why here?”
“…I don’t really know, just…” Yuya replied, still not letting go of the other male’s hand as they walked close to it. “No reason other than the fact that we both love it here, I guess.”
“Ii ne. I wouldn’t care about where it was if it was with you, anyway.” Akihiko said, and lifting his head he gave Yuya a kiss, winking at him when he pulled back. “So let’s sit here?”
“Yeah.”
They spent the rest of the afternoon and the whole evening just sitting there, leaning on the stone bench of the fountain, feeding eachother with the single pair of chopsticks packed along the bento, joking about their unpaid bills, making plans on what they could do the week Akihiko would be home and throwing random guesses of when their such opportunity to just fool around would come. From time to time, either Yuya or Akihiko would lean to pull the other into a kiss, never letting go quickly, uncaring of the people who walked by and saw them, truly happy that they could dork around and show their love to eachother without other worries troubling them, enjoying the little time they could be free like that to the fullest.
When they finally went home that night, they fell asleep holding hands after a long time.
