This will sound stupid, but in regards to your seams, are you actually sewing with the right sides of the fabric together? Your photo makes it look like you're sewing on top of the fabric by butting the edges together and using a zigzag stitch. Your sewing should be on the inside for almost every kind of stitch, including the two you're using.
I'm wondering if the fur is getting caught into the seams while your sewing and needs to be pulled back through to the outside, hence why its bare around the seams. To avoid it, move the fur facing away from seams as you sew. But, that's if this is a problem for you to begin with as its hard to tell.
