Surgery cover up

So, I have searched through all of the tags and cannot find what I'm looking for.  My apologize if this actually exists and I missed it.  So for a bit of backround, I work with persons with developmental disabilities.  I hang out at their house and help them live their life i.e. help them with laundry, cooking, bathing, drive them to places,  etc. ( Read more... )

yep, this times 1000. also, not sure why anyone at your workplace would be privy to your scars.

99% of people have something in their past that they don't want to share. Your surgery(ies), scar(s), and past are your business. You never have to disclose or cover up your trans-ness, just as anyone has the option to have "their own business". As it has been said, it's perfectly ok for it to be "private" if someone insists on asking.

This. I have a very visible scar on my forearm from phalloplasty, and I've never had anyone press the issue. I have the "it's actually kind of personal" response saved up, but have never needed anything after "it's kind of a long story". After hearing that, most people apologize for asking personal questions.

Agreed with everyone that you don't actually need to tell anyone anything if you don't want to. And you certainly needn't show anyone scars. I have pretty prominent scarring from chest surgery and I have seriously never had anyone inquire beyond "I had surgery." If they ever asked more I'd just tell them that I'd prefer not to talk about it. As far as a hysto is concerned, I cannot imagine how such scars (if you have them; I don't really) would ever come up. I'll often say something like, "I had abdominal surgery. I guess there was like a hernia going on?" in a way that makes me sound slightly unsure of all the medical details. Inguinal hernias are pretty common among cis males, and their repair includes the kind of lifting restrictions you have with hysterectomy. But again, very few people will ask for details, and most of those who do understand the unwillingness to share.

Hernia and gynaecomastia are common 'explanations', but like others said, it's ok to say it's private.

Thank you all very much for the input. Of course I won't be running around showing stuff off, and it is none of their business, and if I wasn't friends with some people at work it wouldn't be a big deal. lol. Just needed something with similar lifting restrictions and what not for recovery and what not.
