Going to Thailand (I think) for top surgery?

Aug 23, 2009 00:41

So, a friend of mine mentioned that Thailand (I think it was Thailand) is a very trans-friendly country, and that packages are being offered for travel/surgery. What I heard is about $2000 for airfare/all surgery/medical fees/and your stay. Mind this is all rumor ( Read more... )

i had asked a few surgeons from thailand (some that were recommended to me) but i found it too hard to communicate via email. i asked for pics of their results with double incision on big guys and they sent me peri on what seemed to be tiny-boned (and tiny boobed) asian patients.
even when i insisted to see some more of their work, i was told that's all there was (three pics tops). i honestly did not feel safe enough to even consider them, since i could not know in advance how did they work, the results they were able to give, etc. . i eventually gave up on thailand and just started saving for surgery in the US.

Dr. Mangubat in Seattle, well South Center. also I believe there is at least one other surgeon in the capitol hill area off cherry ST. I think that does top surgery. used to be 2 or 3 though in the Seattle Metro area.

Yes, Dr. Mangubat is in Seattle, but from personal experience, he can be very sketchy. If you decide to go this route, make sure you bring a list of questions and have them answered clearly. Also, make sure you keep the quote he gives you (they print one out) and bring it with you for surgery. He kept changing the price on me, changing his story about how many men he has worked on, and giving me the run around about whether or not he would give me a letter to change my documents.

I personally have 3 friends who have gone to him and are happy with their experiences, but he seriously sketched me the fuck out. I was all set to go with him until he stopped answering my questions directly, had his assistant give me the run around, and wouldn't give me any clear answers to yes or no questions.

For example, I asked him if he would provide me with a surgeon letter to change my documents. He forwarded my e-mail to his assistant who never gave me a yes or no answer but just kept asking me to put down a deposit. They finally, after 3 months of back and forth, said no, they would not provide one because chest surgery is reversible and I could easily get implants and go back to being "a woman" if I wanted to.

Yeah.

I'm American but I lived in Thailand for a while before I came out as trans. If I can try to help answer any questions about the country, let me know.

I would go back to visit/live in a heartbeat; I would even consider surgery there except that I have friends here who I would like to have near when it happens.

Hey,

Im pretty sure I am going to ditch my asshole local surgeon and go to thailand for surgery so Its cool you lived in Thailand... ummm so many questions running through my head. I think the major underlying question is; if i am paying less should I expect a less good result? or is that just an inherently racist assuption that because its being performed in asia it will be shonky?

Im also womdering, once you have picked your surgeon how do you book it and pay for it from another country? ... not sure if you have an answer to that...

While I haven't ad surgery there, I was supposed to do my top surgery there with Dr. Pichet. I ended up staying here and using Brownstein b/c my wife (then gf) couldn't go with me. I was very excited by the prospect of using Pichet, he does excellent work. Me staying here lead to my decision to not get peri and go with DI, as I was more confident in Pichets peri results, likewise Brownstein's DI.

I have many MTF friends who have done their work with Suporn, and are very happy. Suporn does not work with FTMs to my knowledge. When I was scheduled with Pichet, my costs for surgery were $2500, plus additional costs for an apartment to stay in for healing time, I think it was $50/day. You should do research. You can find great deals in India, Mexico, and COsta Rica as well.

http://www.southcentercosmetic.com/ (doesn't actually have info about FTM surgeries, but lists his contact info)

There's a result of his work on TransBucket, too.
