There have been rumors going around that gender identity disorder (GID) is getting removed from the new DSM-V that is planned to be released in a few years. One of my psych professor's and I decided to look it up to confirm/deny that rumor (she is highly supportive of the LGBT community, so curiosity overwhelmed us both). So, a friend of mine mentioned that Thailand (I think it was Thailand) is a very trans-friendly country, and that packages are being offered for travel/surgery. What I heard is about $2000 for airfare/all surgery/medical fees/and your stay. Mind this is all rumor ( Read more... )

There are two healthcare providers for trans people that have dangerous practices in Portland, OR - Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Sara Becker. I have seen neither of these doctors myself but I was appalled to hear the treatment my friend received from both of them. First, Dr. Becker sees more FTMs in Portland than anyone. I live in San Francisco, I am insured through an employee co-pay plan with Kaiser and have been getting hormones through them. I was looking back in the memories section regarding insurance and top surgery and someone from the Bay Area mentioned getting an affordable surgery with Dr. Robert Anooshian a surgeon at Kaiser.
