Roy's Coast to Coast Wheelchair Challenge

May 26, 2014 14:38

Roy Taylor is a nature reserve manager in the North of England. He uses a wheelchair since, last year, he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. Now he's embarked on a walk, in his wheelchair, from coast to coast. Here's his blog about Roy's Coast to Coast Wheelchair Challenge.

I'm following Roy's blog (there's a button to let you do that by email.) I wish him every success. At the same time I see more than one side to what he's doing. Like Roy I was very outdoorsy until I became disabled. Now I'm outside as often as possible, but what's possible will never be the same. Some of the barriers to wheelchair access on the great public footpaths of our country are parts of those paths' charm for people whose legs allow them to walk or run.

Will you follow Roy's walk? What do you think of his challenge? If you're in Northern England, will you join him on the path?
