RP | Party Time

[For anyone and everyone who has an invitation]Now that Phillipe's home was filling up with faces that Julien just basically didn't recognise, he was having second, third, forth and tenth thoughts about any sort of party. It was too late, though, and he had to like it or lump it. Phillipe knew just about everyone here on some level, as was what ( Read more... )

At first, Jess didn't even make eye contact with him. She held herself well, and even though she might have had to work fucking hard to get where she was, she had learnt from the best. Even off to the left where her gaze was trained, Tom was working the crowd while Stuart had singled out a hot blond lad who was standing with a redhead. Oh shit, that was Braden, his brother. The lad Lauren had apparently dipped her tongue into for a taste of some of Scotland's finest. In fact, it was all of a minute before it seemed like the whole Evans Clan magnetised to each other. Jesus H. Chris, that much hottness in one family should be illegal. No wonder Lauren had looked in that direction for some fun ( ... )

"Easy to think a lot of things are a myth when everyone around you is perfecting it and you're running up behind the pack wondering why the hell you missed the starting line," Jess returned with her own small shrug. She started to scope out all the couples in the room, and she knew she wanted it one day. But only with someone who got her and respected her, treated her like an equal. She might be a modern-day feminist, but so bloody what? Someone had to have values to try and keep the world from going to complete pot. She was even jealous of the petite redhead affectionately offering Lauren's ninja model lay tissues... and wondered if that was the baggage that had been referred to.

She went her lips again. "Lauren might not try anything too heavy on again. She thought she broke him the first time. Maybe they're just another pair to be good friends." She smirked. "I've got a fag hag crush on my boss and his fi- uh, boyfriend. If that counts."

"And sometimes it's just nice to let yourself believe in something, even if it is a myth. Didn't you ever used to believe in Saint Nick? Sometimes we need the hope to get us going." Phillipe gave her a warm smile as his eyes searched hers for a moment. She really was something else. He couldn't help it if even when she wanted to smack him he just got hot for her. It was true that the physical attraction came first, but talking to her now still hadn't dampened his attraction, or his wish to know her more.

Phillipe smirked as he nodded in his brother's direction. "He's tougher than he thinks, he might just be a little slow on the uptake. Although starting as friends is never a good thing. No one can ever have enough friends." His eyebrows went up before he looked over at Tom and Stuart. "Ah, oui... I cannot blame you. Stuart's bi, you know. Ask nicely enough they might invite you to join them one night, hm?"

"Actually, no. I was one of those nerdy kids who like to read about everything to try and understand it. I stopped believing in Santa when I was about five. I hope to win the lottery and buy a Louis Vuitton bag from Louis Vuitton. Anything beyond that is... playing with emotions. Don't get me wrong, I know things can happen when you least expect them. Sophie was dazed for weeks when Ethan started to show an interest in her, and they're a perfect match when you shove away all the bells and whistles. Just not sure it's for me." Jess cleared her throat then and stopped talking. She didn't say this much to anyone beyond her siblings. It felt a little strange.

She gestured with her hand. "It doesn't look like he's making any moves on her. Are you sure you and he are twins?" She shook her head with a slight laugh. "No... no, not anymore. A month ago, maybe. Now it's sacred territory."

Phillipe scratched at the corner of his mouth as he glanced away before he started to study her again. Truth was he could definitely afford to buy her a Louis Vuitton bag if that was what she wanted, but he suspected she would never accept the gift off him. She would want to be able to pay for it on her own, and until then it really was just a dream and a hope of hers to own one. Now he understood why she was comparing him to Ethan, and he had to wonder if Ethan had any advice. "What's not for you, cherie? Hoping for a perfect match? Or someone like Ethan... like moi."

He pressed his lips together as he actually looked at her with amusement. "As you said, I hogged all the tosser genes for myself. I also said it takes time. Half an hour isn't time. He's probably scared of not being something she wants, or burdening her while he's still 'coming down' from being overseas. Sacred? Interesting..."

"Relationships," Jess replied honestly and realised she had come to the end of her drink. She put it on the tray of a passing waiter, and reluctantly accepted a glass of champagne. She just wasn't planning on getting drunk tonight at all.

She nodded. "I can't imagine that being easy. I don't really know anyone military... just that soldiers look really hot. Yeah, sacred. I don't think they're going to want to share each other." She caught a glance of Stuart's brother honing in on his left hand. Cat was out of the bag, on some level.

Phillipe wet his lips. "You don't have to drink that," he murmured. He hadn't had much to drink himself. He never did. There were times with his brother that he got drunk, but at parties he just didn't drink much at all. "No one's forcing you. As for relationships, maybe you just haven't tried the right kind yet."

He looked at her. "Sure you don't want to be trying to hit on Julien? I won't be insulted." Phillipe followed her gaze. He didn't miss the brother looking at the left hand, and smiled softly. "Non, I don't suppose they will want to share."

Jess looked at the glass and then pulled her lips to the side. "Keeps my hands busy, at least. As for your suggestion, you're probably right. Because if I have, I've really got bad taste and I'm screwed by default."

"No offense to your brother, but I'm not strong enough to handle dating a military man. I'd actually like a lover to be present, not waiting to hear news if he..." She trailed off and cleared her throat, meeting his eyes. "Sorry. That was bad form of me."

"Maybe we could dance instead?" Phillipe asked her softly. "I find that very hard to believe when you seem so very sure of what you like, and don't like."

Phillipe's forehead creased for a moment before he looked at Lauren and Julien again, his eyes flicked between the two. "Is your sister? And don't worry about it, it's fine. It is part of the military life."

Jess looked at him hesitantly. Dance? When was the last time she had danced with someone? "Who else is going to be sure of you if you aren't yourself?"

She shook her head. "Lauren and I are very different. Like this," she held her fingers up close together, "but chalk and cheese in our tastes. She's more of a romantic than me. I'm my more like Liam in that sense... cynical, I guess you could say. Lauren wants things like snuggles and to have a guy sweep her off her feet, to take care of him. Me... I want someone to... equal me. Be the same as I am am. There you have it, I'm a bitch who is up herself."

Phillipe pulled his hand out of his pocket and held it out to her. She hadn't answered, and he wasn't sure if that was a good sign or not. "The one person you let close enough to try?"

He gave a shake of his head. "You're not a bitch that's up herself. You're just sure of yourself, and I really do admire that."

Jess was interally hesitating, contemplating her drink again and then his hand. She even found herself glancing furtively in Tom's direction for some sort of psychic guidance, but he was caught up in a joke with Ethan, both of them laughing their arses off at something. She put the drink down on the nearest surface and hesitantly took his hand. "That would be assuming I'm ready to let anyone close."

Phillipe smiled at her as he pulled her away from the crowd a little as the music switched to something slow and he was careful to keep his hand on her upper back as he started to lead her. "No one's ever ready, mon petit chou.."

Jess raised an eyebrow at him questioningly. "You seemed pretty ready for something in my office that day," she had to remind him. Probably something she would ever let him forget.

He let out a long sigh before he rolled his eyes and chuckled. "Oui, and I still am. Only as a very smart woman taught me, sometimes it's easier to get close to someone once you give them some space."

"You practically face-planted my cleavage. Can you blame me for wanting it?" Jess through back.
