From what I've read and seen there is a small change in speech, but not very much.

i have an oral fixation too! (hehehe, sounds quite dirty when you put it like that). i chew pens CONSTANTLY - it's embarrassing, i get teased in workplaces. i'm not up for getting my tongue split though! :D

Thats why I got the toothpicks. Chewing pens is kinda gross, and bad for your teeth. But the only way I stop doing it is if I have something in there already :)

ps: out of interest (and because this chicken is a bit too squeamish to go look at any pages with pics of it).. how do they do it? how long does it take to heal?

There are a few different ways, cautery, scalpelling, tying it off. Takes between 2 to 4 weeks for initial healing.

we have a dvd about body modification called 'modify' that actually shows it being done. essentially they just take a scaple and cut mid way down the tongue from the middle in one go, then stuff cloth in your mouth between the incision, can lend you the dvd if you want to see it being done x

Split tongues are hot! I never liked them till I saw them in real life, but four of my instructors at piercing school had them.

You can't tell unless the person shows you...

I probably would have - but all my bandwidth at the time was rather taken up with a specific branding instructor - so snogs with the others wasn't top of mind...

Seth and Nathalie did the fishing line thing for about half of it and then scalpeled the rest from memory... not sure how Dustin and Paul did theirs.
