Okay so the last time I mentioned my ice rink I was in the mere 'planning' stages. I believe I had mapped out a little square piece of the yard and had sprayed it over a few times to form a crust. I didn't bother taking pictures up till now because, really, all it was was a square patch of snow surrounded by.... well.... more snow.

There's no way I would be able to do that with the kids.

Our current rink is ... bumpy, lol. Greg thinks the kids should be able to skate on it this week. It has some weak patches. Yours looks fantastic and I love your spraying device! Go you!

We have a shed near the rink and my dad put one big outdoor light on it for night skating -- so useful when it gets dark so early!
Greg thinks the hot water idea would really work as long as you have a good base. It would melt the surface and smooth things out. We'd have to figure a way to attach the hose to our laundry taps (not sure we can do this) and we do have to pay for all the water so it's probably expensive enough what we've done.
The only things that bother me about the tarp kits is that they're expensive and will probably last only one year (they rip apparently). Still, I do think it's worth a try.
Happy skating to you guys, too!
