PROJECT ICE-HOLE Progress Report - Day 5

Jan 10, 2011 21:10

Okay so the last time I mentioned my ice rink I was in the mere 'planning' stages.  I believe I had mapped out a little square piece of the yard and had sprayed it over a few times to form a crust.  I didn't bother taking pictures up till now because, really, all it was was a square patch of snow surrounded by....  well....  more snow.

Now, however, it is actually becoming something.  I hesitate to call it an ice rink, but it's getting there.

The 'Project Ice-Hole Saga started here:  The Project Ice-Hole Started here
   Next update is here

So I started out with the garden hose which I was hauling outside each time I wanted to water my rink.  I was hooking it up to the outside tap.  This wasn't very practical because then I would have to drag it back in, full of snow, and back into the basement.  That totally sucked because then there was snow through the kitchen and the whole way down the stairs...  nope, wasn't gonna work.

So on day 3 I got smarter.  I hooked my hose up to the tap downstairs and ran the hose out the basement window.  This, my friends, is a beautiful arrangement.  Once I'm done with my watering for the day I simply run the hose back in through the window, cleaning the snow off of it as I go....  couldn't ask for more.

But, on day 4 I kinda got sick of standing around holding a hose.  Plus, as each day progresses, you water for a little longer.  I had to come up with a solution.  So, I now have my garden hose hooked up to a broom handle, which is stuck in a flower pot on the deck.  Yep, you read that right.  The rink is right next to the deck so all I have to do now is turn the sprayer on and aim it in whatever direction I want.  Then I come inside and have a cup of hot coco while my rink floods....  I'M A FRAKKING GENIOUS.

Anyway, here are a few pics of my progress thus far:

This is a shot of my deck and the rink so that you guys can get a feel for were it is situated in my back yard.  You can't really see it very well but the red bucket is on top of the flower pot and the broom handle is in it.  You can vaguely see a white stick coming up, that's the handle and the hose is attached to the top of it.  I'll get a better picture of it next time.

Here's a look at the hose and sprayer and how they are attached to the broom handle.

Here's a side shot of the so called rink

A closer look at the "rink"....  it doesn't look like much but I'm still optimistic

Different angle.

So, that's it folks.....  so far anyway.  LOL

Please note the skates icon is on loan from zaleti  for this project.  She said she thinks it originally came from macayla_csi
