Honestly, I don't know how I started writing. I've been doing it for so long and since I was so young that the memory of making the decision to start doing it isn't even a memory anymore. Up until I was about 10 or 11, I didn't do it very often, but I always had notebooks with me and when I Was in fourth grade, I wrote a series of plays about a girl named Mya who goes into the Enchanted Forest and has adventures with a unicorn and a dragon and a fairy. They were really stupid, as cute as they sound. I think maybe I started because I read so much as a kid (still do, actually) and wanted to make up my own stories, better than the ones I read in books because I could actually control them. I used to write some freaky things when I was little, I don't know why. I think I wanted to shock people ( ... )

Damn that was fast, haha.

Hmm, do you think your age has anything to do with your longing for writing YA novels? I don't wanna assume anything, but since you said you wanted to write for that genre in 8th grade and all, I was just wondering if you think that'd change in the future.

I often think about that, since I kinda correlate fp with teenage writers since the majority of the stories are high school based and all, and sometimes when I notice a writer going 'dead' I wonder if it's because they just don't have time anymore or they just 'grew' out of it. Not that I think that's gonna happen to you- you sound very passionate about writing. :D

I think it might have something to do with my age, but I've always been fascinated YA novels in general, even when I was too young to really be reading them. My preference might change, but I know I want to write fiction, probably romance, at the very lease. You never know where the road will take you, lol.

Yeah, FP is totally teenager-land. I've been on there since I was twelve, on and off mostly, but I never stopped writing even when I didn't post stuff on FP. Sometimes people just don't like posting their stuff online anymore, revealing it to public eyes. I've personally gone through stages like that, but now that I really want critiques and such (and I'll admit, I do like the fact that most people leave generally positive reviews, although it's pretty disappointing how little critiques they leave), I started posting on FP on a regular basis. Hopefully I won't grow out of it; I don't know what I'd do!

I think it all began when I was about four and I was just learning how to read. I used to look at the pictures, and since I couldn't understand what was going on in them, I would tell myself stories based on what I saw happening. The first story I actually remember 'writing' was when I was five, and it was about a princess who had leaves and vines instead of real human hair ( ... )

Your first story sounds like an awesome idea... I like looking at old stuff and being like, 'wow I was a crazy kid,' or the more usual, 'wtf?'

haha, congrats on getting out of finals- submitting to contests and etc, sounds like a great way to start out a writing profession.

Haha- it's hard, right? Writing is so much more personal than I dunno, drawing, I feel (unless you're one of those dramatic emo kids who paints pictures of black with gunky acrylic red paint to overtly symbolize your bleeding... soul..? Gross).

For me though, I didn't attempt to dabble in that sort of depth that you did- my main goal was to make people laugh and my fear stemmed from looking like i'm trying to hard or just not being funny...

I think fp is a good start for sharing stories and ideas (even the occasional solid critique)- what does it mean to be published? To be known, to earn money- for the exchange of ideas, 'publishing' on fp works pretty well.

Haha, nothing pisses me off more than people trying to pass of sheer randomness as humor... Or those stupid lists people post which are essential brag sheets of what they and their friends do and how they're all just so funny and random.

Yeah, I like fp too since I feel like I've made a connection with some people (through reviews and lj communities like this) but it's true with the limited audience. It's hard to have an honest, open discussion about things through fp especially when the majority of the reviewers don't leave actual reviews... Alas.

Haha, and that was another thing that made me think about publishing for real one day- coming across books so bad that my shit could write something more cohesive.

Another fear I suppose is that I feel like if I were to take writing truly serious, I would have to strive towards something of literary genius- or some sort of genius- yet another reason why I'm fearful of sharing work is b/c I know I'm nowhere near that. :S

Like others I started writing when I was really young, my 'friends' at the time were total bitches and in my family talking to yourself is considered extremely healthy, lmao, so when I wasn't reading I was creating things in my head, after awhile I started to write them down ( ... )

Haha, that's funny because writing got 'fun' for me in 6th grade also- except I didn't really pursue it or anything, I just started reading more since it was a book that changed everything for me.

And yes, same here! If I ever were to actually make that jump, I'd definitely choose some gender/age/race neutral name... and not tell anybody.

Writing is literally the air I breathe. I'm always writing, or wanting to write, or thinking about writing, so on and so forth. I have notebook and pen addiction (both of which I take with me everywhere), I buy too many books and I will confess to having read my dictionary for fun. It's the only thing I like to do and feel I do well ( ... )

Haha, well i guess the trend here is that most of us are pretty shy/private in that aspect. I guess this is why we write fiction and not... celebrity based articles? haha, I dunno.

well when you do try to publish- let me know how you go about it? i'm interested to see how people actually go and do this since I heard that you needed connections (much like most of the working professional world D:). Like that kid who wrote that eragon story or something- and how he got published because his parents work in that industry.

I heard Eragon got published was because some famous author guy found the vanity-pressed version online and thought it was the shizz. Oh my god you guys. I just realized Eragon is dragon spelled with an E.

I feel dumb.

Either way, I didn't read it but I do hear that it's pretty terrible.

Haha, I bet he was typing 'dragon' one day when his finger slipped and hit the 'E' and he was like, 'WHOA. GENIUS.' Imagine, it could've also been named 'Fragon,' or 'Sragon,' or 'Cragon,' or the elvish, 'Rragon,' and 'Xragon.'
