I think it all began when I was about four and I was just learning how to read. I used to look at the pictures, and since I couldn't understand what was going on in them, I would tell myself stories based on what I saw happening. The first story I actually remember 'writing' was when I was five, and it was about a princess who had leaves and vines instead of real human hair.

Writing keeps me sane. It's like breathing. I write every day, and when I don't have access to a computer I'm thinking about writing and meta-writing. I write when I'm happy, sad, angry, or heartbroken. It helps me sift through my feelings by attributing them to other characters in my stories. Partly, I attribute this love of writing to reading. Partly, to an extremely overactive imagination. Make believe was a HUGE part of my childhood and I could create week-long dramas with my dolls that involved romance, horror, action, and intrigue.

I actually used to HATE writing. I grew up in times where computers weren't really incorporated in schools until I was in third grade, and a good deal of my papers had to be handwritten. In cursive. That was a total bitch. And then I found Quizilla in high school, and started posting on there because I realized that some of the stories were not much better than mine--and still receiving positive feedback. Eventually I progressed from Quizilla to FP and started posting there. The reviews I've received over the years have helped me mature into the writer I am now. C&C really is the most amazing thing out there since sliced bread.

One day, I would LOVE to write professionally. I'm currently writing a true-to-life essay about some schoolyard bullying I experienced in high school and how I overcame the psychological effects of it. This paper got me out of a final in college and I'm hoping I'll win the cash prize to help with my college funds for next year. So the extent of my professionalism stretches to submitting dressed-up essays and one-shots to contests and magazines. We'll see how that goes!

Your first story sounds like an awesome idea... I like looking at old stuff and being like, 'wow I was a crazy kid,' or the more usual, 'wtf?'

haha, congrats on getting out of finals- submitting to contests and etc, sounds like a great way to start out a writing profession.

Heh. I read too much R.L. Stein. Horror stories were ALL I wrote until about freshman year. I found this other one about a swamp that ate people. It was REALLY strange. Isn't it great when you find stuff like that, though? It's like opening up a portal that leads straight into your eight-year-old brain.

And thanks! I hope it works. :B

Haha i love finding old stuff- I found a whole bunch of drawings I did and it's just funny to look back and re-analyze yourself. Apparently way back when other girls were drawing rainbows and fairies, I was drawing violent cat and dog wars.

I also remember the first story I ever wrote (first grade? somewhere around there) and it was about a rabbit named Kenny who liked to jump on the bed and miss school on purpose (and that's what my 8 year old brain was thinking about, haha) and I showed it to my parents and (wow I'm actually picturing this in my head right now) they totally shot it down. Probably because of the message in it, but mostly things like, 'but rabbits don't do that,' and 'but that's not a girl name,' etc.

And that was the last story I ever showed my family, hahaha :P Thanks mom and dad.

Zomg. That's horrible. You'd think most parents would be happy having kids that don't wean off the glass teat 24/7, but no-- I grow up hearing, "Put the book down and go watch TV or something!" That sounds like a pretty cool story, though. LOL. I can see why they might be a little disturbed. It kind of reminds me of the Dumb Bunnies. Do you remember the Dumb Bunnies?!?
