Still Stuck In "Misery"

Oct 23, 2011 20:50

It's been at least two weeks since I said I was finally leaving Missouri, and since then...I've still been stuck in the State. Why, you ask? Couple of things. First off, the week before I was supposed to move in, the lady I was working with to get me moved in, the assistant manager of the complex, was extremely good to me in helping me get ( Read more... )

Seattle is like a beautiful St. Louis. That's about the best way I can put it.

One of these days I'll travel up that way. I'm still trying out the desert first. I loves my hot weather.

It's a frustrating situation to bet. I'm being as patient as I can with it, but sooner or later, I'm going to be driven nuts if I don't get out of here.

West is best! Seattle is just incredible, but I have a special love for the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in New Mexico. Visit the desert to see if you like it, but I have a feeling Seattle is more your kind of place (grayskies!)

Also, a top unit may raise your energy bills in the current place, but have you checked the roof and windows at the new place? They make a world of difference in the power bills. Our apartment is a top unit, but is way more efficient than other places bc of the white roof and energy efficient windows we put in. I still prefer lower units because of ease of moving things in and out, but it's worth looking into if it gets you in quicker. Good luck!

The only thing that would discourage me from Seattle is the threat of cold and snow, both of which I'm trying to avoid. Las Vegas can get snow, but it's very rare in the valley. Plus daytime highs in the winter months reach the 60° which for me is very tolerable.

And I can already tell you on this apartment complex there are no white roofs (I asked about this), and the windows aren't anywhere near energy efficient. The place did come under new management, but they haven't bothered to update the roofing or the windows as of late, an issue I plan to take up with them.

Gah, I can just imagine your frustration right now! Moving is tough enough, but being told to sit in limbo like that is just terrible! Someone over there needs to do their job.

Alas, I know zip about living out West, so can't give much advice on places to try. If you don't mind cold winters, they say there are lots moving up here to Canada!

The big boss manager is one of the slowest managers I've ever had to deal with. I can understand that he's not really used to this kind of action, especially with how fast and efficient his assistant manager was, but seriously, he should have had someone else trained to handle that job just in case the assistant manager had to be put on mandatory bed rest.

And alas, Canada sounds great, but the cold winters are something I'm trying to stay away from because I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate the cold. That's why I'm choosing the desert...very hot as hell but very dry in the summer. Here in the midwest, we get seasons...hot and humid as hell in the summer (and humidity I can't stand, either), and cold as hell in the winter (with snow, and I hate snow).
