According to Christian belief (and maybe other religions, I'm not sure) babies are not born without sin. They are born with Original Sin- the "stain" upon the soul that every person is born with due to Adam and Eve's choices in the Garden of Eden. Baptismal is a cleansing of this sin and it is believed that without being baptised a person can not enter heaven. I'm sure this is what your dad is thinking of... but he should just leave it up to your brother and his wife to decide.
Foxxie, I know this to be true, cuz I have been a caretaker at many cemetaries, and buried bodies. The reason for baptism is that a majority of cemetaries will not allow a person to be buried without being baptised. I have heard that from prist or father from all religions, even my own uncle baptised by cousin when he died do he could be buried in the cemetary that his parents wanted. As for the other things, no clue.
Hmm...this babtism thing always amuses me, if I ever have kids I'm not going to babtise them because that's a religious thing and I'm not religious. If my kids then choose to become religious when they grow up they can go and get babtised if they want...I'm not going to interfere with that.
Besides, I don't believe there is a hell. If your brother is not religious he should've just said that: "I don't believe in hell, so not babtising my child doesn't make any difference"
