Finishing up the first week of the new job - the job itself turned out to be quite a bit different than what was pitched to me, but the work, ultimately, is easy, the people are laid back and they use macs in the office. Not too shabby in the end, and will tide me over until I find something better/law related

I saw your tweet yesterday about explaining to a colleague what transgender means. How did that work out? Happy to discuss/provide links if you're after futher info.

Just realised that the ether ate my response. grrrr

Anyway, it wasn't a colleague, it was a guy who had come along to one of the Quaker outreach events - at the same event there was a transgendered person. This guy was apparently really confused by this and so dropped me an email. I answered with as much kindness (without being condescending - really hard in email, I find) as I could and included a really wonderful FAQ from The Gender Trust, which did the issues much more justice than I ever could with my very limited experience. He's not emailed me back though, not sure if that's a good or a bad sign.

I'm glad you were able to formulate a response that was potentially useful for this person. Gender and sexuality issues are close to my heart, so I'll definitely check out The Gender Trust. Thanks for the update.

Aw, from their stated person spec, I was hoping we'd get some daring tales of Fox to the Rescue! Never mind, it's only temporary and a simple, stress-free job is nothing to take for granted.
