But my tone is usually anecdotal, silly, familiar. Something about pressed sandwiches, though, made me think about times in my life I've felt pressed. As a result, this post on Willow ( Read more... )

It would seem so, wouldn't it! I'm actually in Charlotte, NC -- it made it all the way up the Eastern seaboard to us.

Ah. I wasn't aware that NC has no basements. I thought that was a mark of the Gulf Coast and our really high water tables and really spongy soils.

Well, I think some people in NC do, and even some folks in Charlotte, but many don't. Would've loved a basement to hide in that night. Eek!

That looks like a yummy sandwich, but your new style won't get many comments here because the linkback goes to the fig proscuitto pizza entry. :P

Thanks for the reminder -- I changed it everywhere else, but foodporn has the queue that this was held in for a bit, so I forgot once it showed up. Will fix!

"What are your memories of pressure?"

The first thing that popped into my head. Honestly:

In Basic Training we occasionally spent too much time in the field (usually marksmanship) to do PT. So we would have these short, excruciatingly intense PTs before heading back to the barracks. One of the things we did was chain push-ups: you do push-ups while some other guy's feet are on your shoulders. Even the guy in front wasn't safe- he had the last guy's feet on his shoulders in a big circle kind of thing.

I'm 5'-7" and at the time weighed about 150 pounds. the guy in front of me was named Bartkowiak and he was EASILY 6'-4" and 250 pounds. And his feet were on my shoulders, doing push-ups.

I'm pretty sure the drill sergeant did that on purpose. He probably thought it was hilarious x.x

Oh my goodness, that's a perfect memory of pressure if I ever heard one! I loved reading it, even though I bet it wasn't a fun experience at the time...

At the time I think we both laughed- it was so absurd you couldn't help it. But yes, it suuuuucked.

There was a silver lining, though: my MOS was 92G- Food Service Specialist. And in the Army, the cook is EVERYONE'S best friend :)
