Much easier on the hob.

Personally, though I find the difference in effort between making up powdered custard and proper egg custard is so negligible, and the taste of the latter much better, that I gave up on powdered custard ages ago.

ETA: The colour looks very dark in the second picture - I'd expect it to be more the shade of yellow on the tin, rather than orange.

Screw you, powered custard is superior.

To the op : Make it then let it go cold and thicken. Heaven can;t touch cold custard :3

"Screw you, powered custard is superior."

Only if your tastebuds are burnt out or you can't cook. Look at the ingredients, ffs, the main difference between real custard and powdered custard is replacing the egg with food colouring and more corn flour to stabilise it so it's more difficult for the inept to render it lumpy. Powdered custard's barely worthy of the name, considering it's really yellow vanilla blancmange.

I like powered custard much more than "real" custard.

I'd also like to point out the French admit that the British make better custard and guess where 99% of us get custard from?

I like Bird's, though I do also make an egg one. It is definitely easier on the hob and then you have the nice pan bits.

To most British people that is what custard is. I always make it on the stove, it is much easier. I like both kinds, Bird's because it is what I grew up on (often served over a lovely tinned Heinz sponge pudding)and 'proper' custard because it tastes better :-)

My Mum still uses Bird's to make a trifle though.

Yep, I grew up with birds custard.
I'd never have even considered making it in the microwave though, ewww.

Sometimes my little brother and I would add drinking chocolate to it whilst on the hob, and make chocolate custard :-)
Yummy!

I never even thought of doing that, I must try it. Maybe with some bananas.
