Wrapped Foods....

Nov 27, 2006 15:43

My husband's office is having their annual Office Christmas shindig.

This year the theme is "Foods that are Wrapped". It's a potluck so everyone has to bring 2 dishes. I'm Mexican so of course burritos and things wrapped in tortillas came to mind but I want to "wow" them. I'd like something different, fun and delicious !

Any help is

tortillas, wontons, rolls

I second the Tamale! You can do so much. You can even do a chocolate tamale for dessert filled with a luscious melty gooey center of chocolate ganache. That will wow them! You can do other fillings as well. Like stuffing outside and ham and cranberry sauce inside. That is a fun potluck!

Thirded! That was the first thing I thought of when you said "Foods that are Wrapped."
I love it because here in Chicago it's "tamale season" and in certain areas of town you can find tamale vendors out on street corners. It's some of the only descent spicy food you can get in this town!

make something with a non traditional "Wrapper"
like using a scallop cut in an "unwrapped" (ie cut around and around til it is a long strip) fashion to wrap a filling of some type?

How about Gin N Juice?
Oh, wait. That's "rapped", no wrapped". My bad.

What about tamales? My mom makes an amazing swet pumpkin tamale (both festive for the holiday and wrapped!) that's pretty quick as far as tamales go because there's no filling ( ... )

Fresh Thai spring rolls are always deeelicious and can be made either vegetarian with tofu, bean sprouts, avocado, lettuce and carrot or with prawns or shrimp for those that eat meat.

Also Mediterranean wraps (think lamb gyros or spicy chicken shawarma) are great and can be made ahead of time and served cold with dipping sauces and toppings like feta cheese, roasted garlic and minted yogurt.
