Wrapped Foods....

Nov 27, 2006 15:43

My husband's office is having their annual Office Christmas shindig.

This year the theme is "Foods that are Wrapped". It's a potluck so everyone has to bring 2 dishes. I'm Mexican so of course burritos and things wrapped in tortillas came to mind but I want to "wow" them. I'd like something different, fun and delicious !

Any help is

tortillas, wontons, rolls

Tamales if you've got the time. Banana wontons with a chocolate dipping sauce for dessert? Rumaki (whole water chestnuts and chicken liver pieces marinated in brown sugar/soy sauce, then wrapped in bacon and broiled...could leave out the chicken liver if you wish)? Crab rangoon? Could you extend the definition of "wrapped" to include ravioli, manicotti, or empanadas?

I suggest lumpia (er... I don't know what they're called over there) basically it's ground pork and vegetables wrapped in a thin wrapper made from rice flour, easily purchased from the Asian section of your local grocery (I think). They are then dipped in vinegar or castup before eating.

Then, as the previous poster suggests, there's ravioli...

Lumpia are lumpia. They're basically Filipino eggrolls, but I haven't been impressed with the frozen ones.

Mmmm dolmas (stuffed grape leaves)... I don't have a specific recipe to recommend, but they're one of my favorites.
