Food Porn: The Novel?

Apr 26, 2006 15:54

I'm on the lookout for any books that contain the elements of both novels and cookbooks. For example, I'm thinking along the lines of Fried Green Tomatoes, which is heavily food based (being set largely in a cafe), with recipes at the back, or The Kitchen Congregation, a memoir-of-types that centers on the kitchens the author has known, and ( Read more... )

No recipes as such, but I did learn about Bon Appetit roulette from reading her books.

I have a Nero Wolfe Cookbook; which are recipes/tidbits from the novels and I want to say Lord Peter Whimsey's cookbook, in which the dishes mentioned in those stories are recreated by menu.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for.

Both are probably out of print.

Ruth Reichl's memoirs: Tender at the Bone, Comfort me with Apples, Garlic & Sapphires

I also love Calvin Trillin's writing

Nigel Slater's Toast was pretty good.

I also recently got this neat book club book at the library with a book list for each month and recipes to serve based on each book.

And I second Calvin Trillin.

None of the books I just mentioned are Novels, they are all non-fiction. But Nigel Slater's book is a memoir...so it's like reading a novel, you know?
